I love Washington, but here's one of the things I hate about it...

I work in the beverage industry in Texas... That is absolutely ridiculous.

God I miss living in Nevada.

Not surprised that Oregon is right behind Washington

So does that mean $35.22 tax per bottle?!?
It'd be worth it to drive to Wyoming, if you were to have a big party, if that's the case.
Edit: I just saw the numbers a per gallon
![]() 03/04/2014 at 16:03 |

Yeah, I mean that's the best way to average it out, but I'll give you a real-life example:
I want a bottle of Glenfiddich 12, which is about $40. I walk out the door paying $51.03.
![]() 03/04/2014 at 16:04 |

That's still almost $9 a liter.

I guess we have to make up for the lack of an income tax. Then again, we did only recently privatize liquor sales, so we're probably stuck on those ideas. I dunno. I don't like it either.

Sounds like a good place to live.

Fawwwwk!
I could buy a liter of low-grade vodka for that here in MI. Not that I would want to...

I would Nelson Muntz at you, but I'm in NC and remember buying booze in GA in times past...
![]() 03/04/2014 at 16:08 |

It sucks SO bad. On top of that, can't buy at grocery stores here like you could in Nevada

I don't think I'll complain about IL's alcohol tax again...Sweet Jesus...
![]() 03/04/2014 at 16:09 |

Assuming you're an alcoholic, yes.
/I fully admit being totally ignorant about that state.
![]() 03/04/2014 at 16:10 |

Damn, that's rough.
![]() 03/04/2014 at 16:10 |

Well, I will say that I'm one of the few people who would rather have this tax than the closed system we used to have. I don't buy very much, so it doesn't cost me a whole lot (plus I buy cheap stuff) but I got more frustrated at the limited selection we had before.
![]() 03/04/2014 at 16:11 |

You don't even need to be an alcoholic, you can just buy tons of alcohol there and smuggle them elsewhere at a profit.
I don't know anything about Wyoming either so I'll just assume it's an inhabited region.

NH is one of the best places to get drunk! Trust me!
![]() 03/04/2014 at 16:12 |
|
I bet!
![]() 03/04/2014 at 16:15 |

Another example, being that I almost never buy Scotch: Safeway has a great generic bourbon. It costs about $9 a bottle. I pay $14 out the door. Therefore, it's almost not even worth buying the cheap stuff.
![]() 03/04/2014 at 16:17 |

Eh, there's enough liquor stores by my place I've never have had the issue with not having nothing but beer in grocery stores.
![]() 03/04/2014 at 16:19 |

but the sales at grocery stores were a plus. Also, store brand vodka for 10 bucks or less for a half gallon to use to clean all the porcelain and tile in my bathroom
![]() 03/04/2014 at 16:19 |

I agree. I'd rather have it taxed rather than be sold by state-run stores. But I'd still rather not have it taxed so much.
![]() 03/04/2014 at 16:20 |

Totally.
![]() 03/04/2014 at 16:22 |

Hey, at least we can buy booze in regular stores now. Ones that aren't located in some obscure strip mall. You may have to take out a second mortgage to pay for the good stuff ($75 for a good bottle of Macallan!) but you don't have to talk to a meth addict on your way out.
![]() 03/04/2014 at 16:26 |

Exactly, I mentioned this in another comment. I'm still happy about closing the state stores, even with the crazy taxes. And I literally wait until I go to California to buy a decent bottle of Scotch. It's been over a year now....

I'm less than an hour from New Hampshire. That is all.

The irony is I almost never drink
![]() 03/04/2014 at 17:13 |

Well, good for you. I don't drink that much, but that's partly because I'm a lightweight.
![]() 03/04/2014 at 17:14 |

You do look like a bit of a skinny hipster in your twitter profile photo :p
![]() 03/04/2014 at 17:16 |
|
Ha! I am still that skinny, but not sure where I'm at on the hipster scale. I do have more facial hair now. But much less rental dress outfits. And I still drive an M3, which is very anti-hipster. Very pro-tool.
![]() 03/04/2014 at 17:18 |

It basically is uninhabited. Don't think the entire state has more than 750,000 people. It does have a TON of amazing places if you're in to outdoorsy stuff. I'll be there in a few weeks for a fishing trip on the Grey Reef
![]() 03/04/2014 at 17:21 |

Are you suggesting hipsters aren't tools?
![]() 03/04/2014 at 17:23 |
|
If WY is $0.00 at #49, does that mean state number 50 GIVES you money to drink?
![]() 03/04/2014 at 17:28 |
|
Not as a rule, no. Maybe these terms look a little different on the other coast too, but I guess hipster could fall into a subcategory of tool? I mean, a douchebag can still drive an old Volvo wagon, and be a hipster, tool, or both. Now I've got something to ponder for the rest of the day...
Unless you were just trying to passively call me a tool, in which case, well done.
![]() 03/04/2014 at 17:34 |
|
Wasn't targeting you that time. I was under the impression that at least most hipsters were tools. Perhaps I have some pondering to do as well.
![]() 03/04/2014 at 22:55 |
|
Having pondered, I think I've known a large enough ratio of nice hipsters to tool hipsters. Therefore, I can't consider it a rule that all of them are tools.
Bear in mind that I live near Portland, and I work in the coffee industry. But if I grabbed a random hipster off the streets of Tacoma, Portland or somewhere in between, I'd bet on him being happy to give me directions to the nearest specialty coffee shop or fixed-gear bike shop. I wouldn't say the same for the kind of person I would expect to emerge from an M3.
Example: I've met this target of the "Hipster Barista" meme. He's a pretty nice guy.
