I don't hate the looks of the Jeep Renegade. Am I lost forever?

Like the Cherokee before it, I think it will grow on people a bit. Personally, I think it would look a lot better with just a little bigger wheels/tires.

Just like the Patriot, Compass, and even some Grand Cherokee variants, every conversation about this "Jeep" must be followed by the hashtag '#NotARealJeep'
Just so we are clear.

Jeep has finally given an answer to this:

Everyone here has a positive view on that car.
It's not a bad looking car, what community/persons gave you the sense that it was?
![]() 03/03/2014 at 16:52 |

you may or may not be lost forever, that depends on the path you follow, and the destination you're looking for...but a statement like that, you most definately will be judged forever. future generations will see this and think, how can someone not hate the jeep name on a fiat?

It is okay. I really like it too. Even though the more and more I look at it, the back transforms into a Kia Soul.
I'm excited to see how well the diesel engine does.
![]() 03/03/2014 at 16:54 |

I think it's hideous, lol.
I'm not one of those "it's not a real jeep" types. I'm a big fan of the new Cherokee (especially in trailhawk) it's just a weird looking creature...

It doesn't look bad at all. In fact I love how the grille kinda goes back to the Forward Control Concept from a couple years ago.
But of course, the purpose behind a Jeep really isn't to look good. It has to be as good off-road as its ground clearance implies.
The only thing I can say I don't like about it, is the fake front splitter. On a car that high? Seriously?

Like 25 years late to the party... Mighty Suzuki Samurai doesn't even care, seriously, I love 'em.
![]() 03/03/2014 at 16:56 |

I like it as well.
![]() 03/03/2014 at 16:58 |

I like the Cherokee as well...
![]() 03/03/2014 at 16:58 |

It reminds me of those kei-cars that offer 4WD and a turbo mated to a manual which is why I love it. A less offensive Nissan Juke, if you will.

After all the Jeep's I have driven, I just didn't expect this. I guess that's what makes it good. I think it was really well thought out.
![]() 03/03/2014 at 16:59 |

Maybe it helps with fuel economy? No idea.
![]() 03/03/2014 at 16:59 |

I fucking love it. It needs silver painted steelies with dog dish hub caps.
![]() 03/03/2014 at 16:59 |

Yeah, but in this world of fuel economy, things have changed. Jeep needs to be able to survive to create the real Jeeps and thus needs some different stuff that sells to the masses and gets good fuel economy.

I like how reasonable people are when it comes to judging it as well, you're a perfect example.
![]() 03/03/2014 at 17:00 |

but not this...
...not this
![]() 03/03/2014 at 17:03 |

Oh I get it, but it still needs to be referred to as #NotARealJeep. They can sell as many as they want to keep the real Jeeps alive, but the reality is that its just another platform share.
![]() 03/03/2014 at 17:05 |

I can't say I hate it either, and this is coming from a "real Jeep" owner. It's a little weird, but I'd still love to see one in person before I pass judgement and I'll probably end up test driving one for the hell of it. At least it's not beige!
![]() 03/03/2014 at 17:06 |

You'll still have the "oh shit look a Renegade" moment like you probably did with the Cherokee. I know I will.
![]() 03/03/2014 at 17:10 |

IMHO it looks pretty nice, looks Samurai-ish (as Baber K. Khan said), also it's not bloated like most SUVs these days.
It could have a little more ground clearance, maybe they'll offer something more offroadey in the future? Still it has better approach and departure angles than many other cars being passed as offroaders and Diesel/1.4 Multiair Turbo, AWD, 6-speed Manual sounds pretty nice.

You kind of made my day with this. I just pictured a little boy questioning his great grandfather's buying choices.
![]() 03/03/2014 at 17:24 |

I wouldn't mind taking a diesel/manual around the block.
![]() 03/03/2014 at 17:24 |

Oddly, I don't hate the Soul either. I don't think it drives all that well (though, I haven't driven the latest model) but it looks great.

Thanks for the visual. I just hope cargo space is good. I have really missed having a small/tossable machine like the HHR. I know it wasn't a sports car but it handled better than the Equinox by far. I want a hatch with room that's fun. Is that too much to ask?
![]() 03/03/2014 at 17:26 |

thats what i'm here for, my infinite wisdom should come in handy eventually.
![]() 03/03/2014 at 17:26 |

Never thought of it that way. I like the Juke too. Never thought I would say that but I recently drove one and loved it!
![]() 03/03/2014 at 17:27 |
|
Nah, it's a Panda! James May loves it and he owns an F430
![]() 03/03/2014 at 17:28 |
|
Same here. I have to drive one for sure. I hate the idea of 9 speed auto's in general. Way too much overkill. I will have to drive the manual.
![]() 03/03/2014 at 17:28 |
|
That, and even though it's on the "small car wide" platform, I can't help but think I would like it a bit wider.
![]() 03/03/2014 at 17:30 |
|
Meaning it doesn't have that much room?
![]() 03/03/2014 at 17:33 |

The only real Jeep.
![]() 03/03/2014 at 17:33 |

just everyone elses parts.
![]() 03/03/2014 at 17:36 |

No it should have a decent amount, here is the Panda 4x4
![]() 03/03/2014 at 17:38 |
|
It's weird. I really wanted a Sonic due to it being a hatch but it wasn't even as big as an HHR. I understand they are in two different classes but still, I figured they would be similar. I just really liked the overall size of that car. It was well balanced utility and fun. The steering wheel was cartoonishly large, however.
![]() 03/03/2014 at 17:39 |
|
Could it be based off the Panda?
![]() 03/03/2014 at 17:40 |
|
I think that's the general consensus.
![]() 03/03/2014 at 17:41 |
|
Hmmm, In the case that it is, why not sell it is as a Fiat?
![]() 03/03/2014 at 17:42 |
|
This might be smaller than an HHR, but you'll have AWD
![]() 03/03/2014 at 17:46 |
|
I love this more than I have loved any car in a long time. That said, I do respect monsters like an Alpina B3 more but this is just so downright cute!!!
![]() 03/03/2014 at 18:17 |
|
Sure looks your a peein' don't it?
![]() 03/03/2014 at 19:03 |

If I knew the answer to that question, I could probably make a lot of money as an executive.
![]() 03/03/2014 at 19:03 |
|
Haha. Sure does.
![]() 03/03/2014 at 19:04 |

Yeah, I think these smaller cute utes will be a big deal. Evidence is supported by the Buick Encore's success.
![]() 03/03/2014 at 19:04 |
|
But I don't really NEED AWD...
![]() 03/03/2014 at 19:48 |
|
No one ever does.
![]() 03/03/2014 at 20:37 |
|
I don't hate it, but it feels like the jeep shouldn't be mixed with it. If that makes any sense haha
![]() 03/03/2014 at 20:56 |
|
It makes sense.
![]() 03/04/2014 at 09:59 |
|
I think that depends on how many of them sell. If they sell like crazy, sometimes funky styling will get you that...see kia soul...you probably will end up going "another renegade".
Man it's weird looking.
![]() 03/04/2014 at 10:16 |
|
That's true, but they're selling a lot of Cherokees and I still have the same "oh shit look" reaction.
![]() 03/04/2014 at 10:17 |
|
I've seen quite a few, I'm down to "oh shit look a trailhawk" now. lol
![]() 03/04/2014 at 10:19 |

When I see Grand Cherokees it's down to "oh shit an SRT"
