So yeah, that is most beautiful car ever in forever ever. It has been settled. Chisel in the interbooks!

I can't believe I've never seen that variation, it's fantastic.

Was this produced?!

I dunno - I'm not sure the 'Vette-style tails really work here, at least at their current height. Maybe it's just that they aren't faired in very well, and make the lines more awkward. I think fins like the Facel II might have worked better.

Kinja'd!!!

Or, failing that, like the Mk. II FV Excellence.

Oh, this version really was just a re-bodied Corvette.

Probably makes it worse. To have the winky-over-scrotum rear lights *longer* and now contrasting with the center sweep (which I point out has no chrome at all on it) just looks weird to me.

I suspected as much, but it to me takes the design element of the C1 I like least and makes it worse.

...and the goofier styling elements disappeared in '56, so if it'd held out that long...

I actually don't know why they didn't do it, because they made few enough early C1s that the hand-laid fiberglass for a shooting brake or Corvair version wouldn't have been much cost-different, and there was enough parts-binning present that mechanical wouldn't have taken a hit either.

I also find it interesting that the people in the pic are all (?) women. Possibly part of the efforts to develop the car as a Euro-alternative graceful car, claims of attracting women, or just coincidence?

The one pictured had a water cooled straight six up front and a solid rear axle :D
