The 2012 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet destroyed the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport's record 0 to 60 mph time of 2.57 seconds by more than a second, clocking a 0 to 60 mph acceleration time of just 1.52 seconds, according to the American Drag Racing League. The new time makes the 2012 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet the fastest production car in the world.

It's not street legal, so no, it's not the fastest production car in the world.

While the 2012 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet is a production car (there will be 50 of them made), it is a dedicated drag racer and is not street legal.

None of the cars that have come around and claimed to beat the Veyron can actually hold a candle to the package that is a Bugatti Veyron.

A purpose built drag racer with a stripped out everything designed solely for going fast down a drag strip is faster than a luxurious supercar that you can and would actually drive on a road trip of multiple hours? Whoop-dee-freaking-do.

This is faster than a Veyron too:

Even the Hennessy Venom, while an impressive performance machine, doesn't touch the Veyron in any other metric.

The only car that's come even close to, perhaps even surpassed, the Veyron is the Porsche 918. Eye popping performance and truly liveable, useable luxury? The Porsche has it. The P1 doesn't, and neither do any of the other Veyron killers

Just because they made at least 30 doesn't mean it's a production car.
