Just finished watching all 6 parts of "My Life As A Rallyist" and here are my thoughts.
Step 1: Scrap up some money
Step 2: Get job with /Drive
Step 3: Befriend very important group in rally
Step 4: Immerse yourself in a rally culture in a foreign country
Step 5: Go out for a rip in rally car once you are back
Boom, rallyist!
This does seem cynical but overall I really liked the series and learned quite a bit more about rally. Makes me wish I lived in an area with more car racing/rally culture. Loved that Lancia too!

If I had a car I'd probably would've been at all the events he went to in the Subaru, I'm within driving distance of all of them.
Also, my favorite part of that series was when Mr. Regular showed up.

My thing is that I can't spare the money. I'd be happy to help out someone with their car, but I can't just go out and do these things on my own right now.

I know there are some frozen lake rally's around here but I need a car that can go out for a rip.

I'm pretty sure the ice racing thing was in Albany, which is where I am right now. Damn, I wish I had a car...

Even to get a cheap car which is about ~$500 then you start rally cross/auto cross it you are going to start breaking things really quickly. Tires aren't always cheap and getting a roll cage costs a ton. Cash is always the issue.

Work hard, get car, crash car trying to rally, repeat.

Was my plan for life

Exactly. I'm completely willing to be free labor for a friend, but I'm not in a place where I can put disposable cash into a car.

I agree, I have a truck that need to get me from place to place. I would have to have a car that I could DD and rally cross. And getting a car and insuring it is not cheap.

Maybe the new national anthem of western Canada.

Yeah, the stuff to take away from it boils down to:
#1 Get contacts.
#2 Get Money
#3 Get Contacts
#4 Get Contacts
#5 Get More Money
When I started watching it, I was expecting it to contain things like hints and tips but other than the key thing of "don't try and make the perfect car, get a safe solid one and get it out there" it's very specifically just an autobiography of some random guy. It's definitely worth a watch still of course.

Its more of Ryan's story than a How To for sure. I have started looking more at cars that will be solid instead of fast or look good. Every story I have seen it seems that you need to be connected in order to get ahead.

Not new york, it was in NH. The guy with th sentra lives here and particpates in the sccnh rallycross events. The shopping segements were done in Maine.
The sentra has a small thread on Nemotorsport.com forums. Mostly races in the S. Nh area

I think I was thinking of this series but you're probably right.
