I mean... just on Amazon alone, there are sooooo many to choose from. And it spans quite a price range. Any suggestions?

Which ever one fits your budget, and has the highest number of good reviews. I forget which one I have, but I think I paid $7 for it, and it works just fine. The only complaint I or the reviewers had, was the LEDs face downward when plugged in, so you can't tell if its doing its thing. But it always is anyways.

While this one is compact and cheap it also consumes a little bit of power when the ignition is off, so I just unplug it. Unfortunately, that means that I have to re-pair it with my phone every time I plug it back in.

I got a cheap Bluetooth one off ebay and it failed to work with my iPhone 4, iPhone 5s and my buddies Droid.

I just ordered the BAFX Thursday, we'll see how it goes. I spent a long time reading reviews, and they all seem to be crap shoots.
I would suggest not leaving it plugged in with the car off. Every type out there has reports of drained batteries. None of them appear to be of high quality. I was considering making my own, but it's not worth the time when a 'good' one is $20.

I have this one, it's very reliable for me. BAFX is great too apparently. I've gone through three (not a BAFX) and this one is the most reliable (aka not a super flaky Bluetooth connection).
If you're on Android I can't recommend
Torque enough. Data logging in csv made some science fair projects.

I have the exact one pictured. It does the job. Don't expect a millisecond polling time for realtime stats, although they do update at a decent rate. There is a bit of lag between the engine revving, and the needle on the app on my phone.

I have a Scanguage LINK on my Civic SI. I like it because it displays real time data, trip data, MPG, MaxMin data and miles to empty that the car doesn't.

I got this. $99.00 and worth it. Fastest connection. Power-save mode (so you can leave it plugged in). Works awesome with Torque app. It is amazing what info your OBD can provide.

Came to recommend this same one. It's really fast (as long as your car is new enough to make use of the speed), and reliable. I had one of the cheap $20-or-so ones before, and it "worked..." while this one works. If you know what I mean.
