So apparently the answer is always Miata, since the car behind it looks nearly spotless.

Not good.

This happened in Rome, so perhaps the Italian starlings were making a political comment?

In College Station, Texas (Home to Texas A&M), the summers get hot with humidity a touch under pure water. In late spring/early fall semesters, it's common to see every campus parking spot taken EXCEPT for the ones directly beneath shady trees. Wouldn't it make sense to hide one's car under the foliage and protect it from the paint-killing son? It would if it weren't for the large army of Grackles that eat fruit and coat vehicles with their acidic excrement.

Poop-covered cars. WHOOP!!

We get the hordes of grackles in Austin too. I hate them.

I read an article once that the poop doesn't mess up the paint by itself. The acidity of the poop isn't enough to etch the clear coat. When the clear coat/paint (covered in poop) expands in the heat, it opens up microscopic cracks that the poop can get into. Then, when the car cools, the surface contracts and pulls microscopic bits of poop, dirt, or whatever is on your car, into the clear coat/paint.

So just clean off any poop right away (especially before the car cools) and you're good.

I took this picture when I was in Rome a few years back. Right along the Tiber too... must be a thing.
