I believe my supercharger has gone south. What to do next?

2004 Mini Cooper S, 127k. It was also rear ended not long ago, which seems to have triggered this, but maybe I'm dreaming.

What's wrong? Not building boost? Grinding noise? Gotta post more info.

I believe you have an Eaton M45. If it's like my Eaton M90s were it may kill its bearings and/or break the coupler. Both of which are repairable.

Coupler damage is so common that there's a kit for it:

I don't see how being rear ended would affect the supercharger. The first thing I would check would be the belt and the tensioner just because those would be the cheapest and easiest to fix

Just work down the list:
Have you been keeping it supplied with oil?
Is the belt in good shape/tight enough?
Were there filing or anything the last time the oil was changed?
Does it build any boost at all?
Do you have a bad pressure retention control (spring or diaphragm, don't remember on Coopers)?

Eventually you will find your answer.

It's not boosting, and the belt is squealing. There isn't a grinding noise, just a weird chirping.

On these cars, the SCs aren't serviceable. So you'd have to remove it completely, then disassemble the blower.

Bad tensioner and belt. Check them first.

You should be able to change the oil through an hex head plug. Should take about 6 0z. of fluid.

Did you do the service on it at either 80k or 100k?

Ouch, those things are expensive. Best of luck to you!

video would help. Either the belt's slipping or the supercharger has shagged a bearing or two.

Move somewhere warmer and follow it?
