These new pumps have video screens. These screens play ads while you pump. It did not make me want a cup of coffee. Please let me be miserable pumping gas in peace.
Bugatti for your time

We've had them for a year or two here now.. I ALWAYS end up buying a friggin' hotdog for just "10 kroners".

lol dang dude, it's coming to a point where you have to sit through an ad before you can sit on the throne

Damn, before finishing reading, i thought the screens purpose would be like those stoplights in germany that have a little game while you wait to cross the street.

Haha seriously...
"You can skip this ad in 12 sec..."

To be fair, gas stations in Norway are more like mini super markets....or just "markets" I guess...where here its all just crap food in shiny packages. When I was there I ate some of my best food at gas stations and 7-11's

That would be cool! Play some flappy bird while you pump. There's a competitive advantage they should look in to.

Some of them have a mute button. But God forbid that we should have to stand for three minutes with nothing to watch. I was in CA a few years ago, and one store had TVs on the pumps that showed Entertainment Tonight or some other idiotic show like it. We are truly plumbing the depths of just how shallow we can be as a society.

You're just enabling them!!

I stopped at a shop that had these last week. Can't turn the volume down, can barely see because of the sun glare, useless devices. The ad started with something along the lines of "let's see if we can [insert shill here] before you finish pumping!"
I was in the Dakota. It was going to be a while. I just sat in the truck.

Mini markets would be a good name I guess. But you had your best food at gas stations and 7-11s? Dude... When in Norway, ask the locals about the best place to eat, we're not big on chains, but we have awesome local shops. :)

I've stumbled upon this once.
I was refueling in western Massachusetts. When I started pumping, it started with a 15 second Weekend Update clip from SNL. I thought, Oh, this won't be so bad . Then, after 15 seconds, it played a 15 second ad.
Then it repeated.
That was it, the whole production was 30 seconds long. It repeated 10 times in the 5 minutes it took to fill the tank. By the end, I was repeating the SNL clip out loud as it ran. It did not make me want to by their doodads and trinkets.
Life needs an Ad Blocker

Those gas station TVs are awful. I don't need celebrity gossip and 2 week old sport highlights while pumping my gas.

I know I know... but as a Norwegian I must admit that a "Pølse i lompe med rå løk" for just 10 kroners is pretty friggin' awesome. a liter of fuel costs more :P (unless it's E85 that is)

well, not my best food but it took us a few days to realize that eating out in Norway was very different than eating out in the states and that the normal fast food type places were much much worse and the min marts were much much better. We ate pretty well though, my wife's family took us in for about half the trip.

We don't have that luxury here in MA. By law there's no tab to let you set the pump and walk away. No volume button either, I was completely held hostage. The ad was for the shop's own brand of coffee too, they wanted me to spend even more money while I was there!

Yeah, we don't have great/good fast food places here (other than the random kebab shop), but I guess the biggest problem for tourists would be the price.

Holy crap! I would have stopped pumping and gone some place else.

Ugh. How about carrying a bungee cord to wrap around the handle? Or some zip ties? They're disposable

holy crap, you aren't kidding. Thank goodness peppes pizza.

Hehe, next time you visit, avoid Peppes like hell, you can get better Pizza for 2/3ds of the price most places :)

Thank god our local station operator finally turned the volume down. It was ridiculous, really.

Im hoping there is a next time in a near enough time period that I will have remembered that.

Right, and there could be room for showing their adds as well, just as in most free games avaliable on the iphone app store

In Mass. I believe it might actually be against the law to do put anything in the handle.
Annoying, but at least they still let us pump our own gas.
