If you haven't heard yet, top gear took the venom gt to an 3.22 mile runway at the kennedy space center and got the venom upto 270.49 mph, beating the Veyrons SS's previous record of 269.856 mph. It is not official because Guinness requires that at least thirty car be produced, and Hennessey is only making 29 with 11 currently delivered. The run is also not official because there was no second run in tho opposite direction.(to account for the wind, and get an average speed) Nasa only allowed one run, and the process to even get a run booked on the runway was a 2 year process apparently.

Fuck yeah 'murica.

It's a bit of a hollow victory to me. At the end of the day, it's based on a Lotus Elise chassis. There's nothing 'Murican about a Lotus.

Sure it's based off of, but there is pretty much nothing left untouched on the venom. it's powered by a 7.0 v8 from gm, and it is built by hennessey. And where is hennessey located? 'Murica. It also is the unofficial fastest accelerating car to 200 in the world. koenisegg agera r is second I believe, or holds the official record.

Fastest series tuner car................. in the world.

Yes because the Bugatti can be considered a standard production car. This car is cheaper than a veyron at $600,000. As for the production numbers, the Bugatti has 500 something because they are such a big company. Hennessey can't do that because they are A LOT smaller. Considering the fact that the veneno only has 3 made and can be considered a production car, why can't this? Yes I get the fact that this is a bit out there, but isn't the Buggati also?

The Veyron is around 450 units in total, and they are having trouble selling them all.

The reason the Venom is a tuner car has nothing to do with production numbers. It's insured and registered as a Lotus Exige, and it has a Lotus VIN. Therefore, tuner car. Production cars need to pass emissions and crash tests to be certified for sale- tuner cars ride on the original car's certifications.

What about the special editions of the Veyron? Are they included in the 450? Wasn't sure about that. And you got me there with the lotus vin part. But still, I think its pretty damn cool. (first time i've lost an argument in about forever.)

The made 300 coupes and 150 Grand Sports. I believe that includes the special editions.

He most definitely is feeling smug. . . But yeah all the special editions fall under the Veyron production, basically they slapped a fancy paint job on them or some special wheels and kept on upping the price to buy one whilst slowly increasing the top speed. The Veyron is a technological marvel but it really tanks in value immediately due to basically every one being a special edition. VAG should have cut their losses and not made as many of them as they did. Unless the car was owned by a celeb you can pick one up at an auction for under $1 million. The Venom is also over $1 million to buy from them, which I could see buying/building a better car for that price.

I heard they lose money on each on they produce, same for the LFA. What I think is funny is the venom can reach the same speed with half the cylinder(or half the engines).

Yeah but the Bug has the advantage of reduced NVH and pretty much instant throttle response because the four turbos. Each system has pros and cons and the Bug has the AWD which is good I guess if you want to drive a hyper-car in the rain or snow. . .

AFAIK the LFA was a design exercise to show the world that Toyota kind of cares about what they used to be like and took a hit on all the sales mainly due to the development of their composites division which they will probably use further down the road (fingers crossed) in other production sports cars.

Not to say what the Venom did isn't impressive, but I really am not a huge fan of Hennessey in general. I'll be happy once they show the car doing hot laps on a track as I really just don't care for out right speed runs, there are the Bonneville cars and the land speed races for that which are far more interesting.

I love the way they weave their carbon fiber in the LFA. Look up the LFA carbon fiber weave.

Here's a lap at the top gear track. It is really damn squirmy. I think I would shit myself if I was in that car. I'm sure you could find another video of the venom taking laps.

You realize that is a video game lap and not the real car doing that right?

Yeah the LFA carbon looms are pretty sweet.

Yeah. But i'm still pretty sure someone put the actual car through a lap somewhere.

-edit-I can only find videos of it testing, no laps... sadness.

The Venom doesn't pass emissions and crash tests?

Derp.

It didn't do the tests, that's only for production cars. The Lotus Exige passed them, which is how the Venom can exist.

I would hope that the Venom can at least pass smog in California, otherwise you can't register it.

It is not official because Guinness requires that at least thirty car be produced, and Hennessey is only making 29 with 11 currently delivered. <— false, they've given it records before, and also, it was because NASA wouldn't let them run the strip both directions like Guinness requires (for a average top speed of both directions)

Alright, lol, also, the sad thing about it is..Hennessey still needs a longer straight away. If you've scene the video of the 270 run, the car is still accelerating fairly decently at the point it hits 270. It'll go faster if it has more room.

http://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motorami… <- Start talking about Guiness in the 4th paragraph and goes on about it, and how they've already given this car a record :)

Kinja'd!!!1

Yeah they said they think it can get 278 but i think even more if they push it. The funny thing is the 8 mile oval that they need to fully test the speed of the venom is owned by VW. That's a fix that probably won't be reversed or fixed anytime soon.

Kinja'd!!! Singhjr96 > CPT Speedbump
02/25/2014 at 05:22

Kinja'd!!!0

Ok that is from 2013. It was later reversed later in the year I believe. Bugatti temporarily had their record stripped because of a debate about the limiter and later had it restored because Guinness said the limiter did not actually change anything about the car. Also the link that you just gave me also says that they reversed the decision because of hennessey only making 29 venom gt's. They said that they would allow the record at the time because they looked at it by a case-by-case basis (but it was later reversed). Look at paragraph 7 or the paragraph right before this picture. Sorta contradictory to your fist post.

Surely that's exactly what I said in my first post? They've given it records before, and it sais that it appears it the Hennessey was a exception to the "production" rule, as they've given it a record ? lol, unless they've removed that record from it then iuno :P
