There are many cars rendered unachivevible to a majority of the majority of the population. I'm sure many people would love to have a Veyron in their garage, but for 99.9999% of people, this will just remain a fantasy. While it is well and fine dreaming about cars that you'll never have a chance to own, Many of us have one car that lingers in the back of our minds as motivation and a happy thought to think that with a lot of hard work, and a bit of luck, someday this car could be mine. My car is a first generation Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder (not the LP pictured above) in Giallo Midas (or yellow to most) with a black leather and alcantara interior and a 6-speed gated manual.

I know this is a big dream, but with the quickly approaching replacement the prices on Gallardos will hopefully drop. With a lot of hard work and determination setting money aside and a whole lot of luck, this could be achievable at some point in my lifetime.

So mine is a Lamborghini, what is yours? You want an exotic? Have your eye on some American Muscle? Been longing for a Japanese Rallycar for the road? Let me know in the comments and we can work towards our dreams together.

If we are talking an attainable dream car I have always had a soft spot for the C6 Corvette. ZR1 after riding in it has biblical acceleration, but perhaps something a little more special with a bigger displacement engine.

Dude this is like automotive Sophie's Choice .

Different cars for different situations!

Going for a spirited drive on a twisty road, sure, I'd go Pagani or Lambo. Maybe some hotrod Porsche. Something I could use for semi-daily driving? Twin turbo C6 Z06. Feeling retro? LS-6 all day long!

but the reason i bought my truck was it was close to my dreamtruck. it's an '80 so it doesn't have the blue oval grill, it's an early model, so it has a '79 f100 frame...all the goodness. now i've gotta find my dream engine and trans. then, i can fix the proportions and fit a flatbed. (i wouldn't hate a 4-71 detroit/lenco 5spd/2 speed rear)

I'd want something to take to car shows to let people see something they otherwise never would. And something I'd love to take pictures of. This 1948 Talbot-Lago T26 Grand Sport Coupe from the Mullin Museum would do nicely.

My dream car varies, because it's market-dependent. What I want is to have enough money to be investing the kind of money that buys you a really nice car, and a car that'll perform well enough purely as an investment that I can spend the money that way. It's a far more attainable goal for anyone doing more than scraping by to have a low six figure sum invested well than to be able to lay out that much just for fun.

Pick the right car at the right time, and your dream car might be the best thing you ever bought.

Right now, I'm working towards a first-gen Lotus Elan. Already going up, but still very cheap for one of the best handling cars ever built.

You'd be right if it was traffic cops we're talking about, but we've mostly got rid of them in favour of cameras these days. Your problem will be that impersonating a police officer is a real crime, and they'll track you down the old-fashioned way.

Anyway, it's a real test of the driver to stay ahead of this:

Kinja'd!!!

And even in an RS200, you have no chance of outrunning this:

Well, if you want to put up with the hassle you can always go to court and argue your case. People have been done for wearing high-vis in an officious manner, so there's no hard and fast rule when it comes to impersonating police except whether people have actually been mistaking you for a police officer.

I saw a fake unmarked car put its blues on to get through traffic once, and I was so impressed by the chutzpah that I didn't report it.

I'm pretty sure most people pay more attention to the jam sandwich than the fact it's an RS200 :)

It's not so strange that the laws are a bit vague, because they have to be tested in court before anyone really knows what they mean. Which is why you're absolutely spot-on when you said:

"genius, yet incredibly stupid and reckless at the same time!"

Okay.

I've already technically got one in my Dad's garage, this being his 1974 911; which will one day be mine!

Kinja'd!!!

I want a Guards Red Porsche 944:

Kinja'd!!!

I plan on one day having my own red 964 Carrera 4 6 speed manual to follow in my Dad's footsteps for daily driving use for as long as possible. I'd choose a 964 over a 993 because to me, it's the most modern, yet classic looking 911 of the aircooled generation

Kinja'd!!!

Then to top that off, I'll take a blue 991 Carrera 4 7 speed manual just like this one!

Kinja'd!!!

If I add American cars to the list, I'll take a C2 Stingray Hardtop, a 1970 Mustang Fastback, a 2015 Mustang and a C7 Stingray in these colors!

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

How's that for a dream! All easily attainable(within reasonable hopes and wallets) and great cars! Best of luck on your dreams! :)

I'd love to have the opportunity to just rebuild my Z from the ground up to be a road/dirt rallycar. Keep some of the well pretty bodywork, but start from scratch with suspension, maybe rip the unibody apart and replace it with a stronger tube frame. Do a bit of aero work, lighten everything, make everything perfect and reliable. Find some fuel efficient, lightweight, and high revving motor with 200 or so hp, and put in a better 6 speed transmission. And then DD it til the end of time. Like this, with modernized internals:

I actually have three, and none of them are particularly expensive. In fact, most middle-class Americans could afford them. I shall list them in ascending order of preference:

3. Ferrari F355

Kinja'd!!!

There hasn't been a better-sounding Ferrari since. It's the perfect size, it's just fast enough, I love the looks, and it comes in manual. Naturally, it must be red, yellow traditionalists be damned. You want to carve up some back roads? This car is really hard to beat. Here is why:

.

2. Red 1960 Corvette Hardtop

Kinja'd!!!

It's visually stunning and proportionally near-perfect. I want one exactly like this, no changes. The C2s are actually visually tighter and technically superior, but they are also racier. I love the C2 for what it is, but I want this more. The perfect cruising vehicle, and being able to pull up in this as a surprise vehicle for a first-date would be the best feeling ever, better than the sex that might result.

1. 1990 Corvette ZR-1

Kinja'd!!!

Yeah, there are two Corvettes on this list; I have simple tastes. I am a huge sucker for the late 80s/early 90s look, and this car has it. It also set endurance records, speed records, and almost single-handedly re-ignited the horsepower wars we see today. The transmission, the same one I have in my '96 Corveette, is a dream to row through, only this one is an early German-made "black-tag" and thus makes even more awesome whiny supercharger-like sounds. Then there's that awesome 32-valve DOHC LT5 that pulls and pulls and pulls. These are all just bonuses, though, because the real reason I adore this car is the wide-body styling. It's so subtle but it makes all the difference in the world.

I want one in red.

I'm going with your criteria here and I'm going to have to say TVR Sagaris, even though it is right hand drive. (Along with a bunch of other cars I want, R32, RX-7 FD3S, Hakosuka GTR, etc. why couldnt Canada be RHD?!?!)

If not an Audi Sport Quattro (An S1 would be my unobtainable first choice).
