I just got a call from my little sister that while leaving school today that some kid hit our car and pushed her into the car in front of her. She said at the time she didnt notice the damage, I'm gonna guess because the hit scared her, but now she says there are "cracks" and "holes" bumpers. I wonder how bad these "cracks" and "holes" are. Edit while writing the post. The Pictures Just came in, shit. This is way worse than I expected.

When I was a kid I shared a car with my sister, but my dad was paying. She did stuff like that as well, but that was fine because the odd occasion where I did something dumb and put a minor dent in it, I could blame everything on her.

Could've been worse, they could've had a ball plugged into that trailer hitch.

Is there any damage on the rear bumper or trunk? If the car was hit from behind "by some kid" then there should be, should there not, some indication on the rear part of the car?

If there isn't, then I suspect this may be a case of, shall we say, unintended acceleration.

I hope she got his information even though she didn't notice an issue at first.

Shit dude, Sorry to hear that. Any idea yet on how much the damage is gonna be? That parking lot was, and always will be hell. If she's got the other guys info then that's all that can be done for now. Best of luck with it, I did like the Grand Prix more than I'd admit.

But she did get hit, so the kid's insurance is going to pay and you'll have a full paint job for free.

She's actually a very good driver in many ways. Can't park for shit, though - habitually abandons her car so far from the kerb you'd swear she'd double-parked and then the other car had driven off. She met one of my best friends for the first time when she turned up outside an event he was at, stopped the car in the middle of the road, got out, and asked a bunch of random strangers 'will one of you park this for me, I know that space is big enough'.

I did once have to grab the wheel when she was driving, just after she'd passed her test, but to be fair that was because I'd been hooning in the snow and smacked the wheel hard on a kerb so the alignment was way off - definitely something I'd blamed on her.

Oh I wish. Michigan is a no fault state which means you are on the hook for your own damages. Stupid policy.

She didnt. Thankfully it was in the school parking lot with a lot of cameras and she knows the name of the kid that hit her.

Wait, what?

So somebody hits me in Michigan and my insurance and I have to pay it?

Yep. Unless you bought "enough" insurance to where your deductible is cheaper than the repairs. The best part? Our insurance rates are sky high. If you're below 25, good luck buying a car. A chevy cruze? A ford Focus? Toyota corolla? 3000$+ a year because you NEED to have collision coverage unless you pay cash for the car. Without collision coverage (Basically PLPD only) you are SOL for damage to your own car.

Pardon me, but this is crazy and completely distorts the concept of insurance, which was created to protect the innocents.

Okay, crossing off MI as a place to drive my car.

Who thought that was a fair law?! "Sorry I totaled your car because I suck at driving. Best of luck with that."

It's to cut down on legal disputes. If the driver was intoxicated or you can prove some abhorrent negligence, you can sue for damages I believe. But between lawyers and court fees, it isn't worth it on older cars.

The trade off has something to do with your insurance company paying the opposite parties medical bills. This leads to some of the highest insurance rates in the state and just about everyone hates it. Tbh, I don't know how it ever passed here it is so horrible.
