I spent a couple of hours sitting in my car today and decided to take a few photos around the interior. Since I like looking at details of cars I'm curious how my fellow Opponauts' shifters look like.
This is mine:
A 5 speed Merc box. I kinda wish I had the later 6 speed for out of town cruising, but what can you do. I guess the existing ratios are pretty long anyway so revs end up being reasonable. It's not very good for sports driving, but it's very good for a relaxed shifting style. It may not be the cleanest at the moment but it rows just fine. Also, interestingly, the gaiter and the knob are all one part. You can't unscrew the knob separately.
Share photos of your sticks.
By the way, I'm bored. Can you tell? ;D

Oddly enough, I'm always curious to see what the shifters look like in other cars. Don't have a picture on my phone, and Kinja + a gov't network rarely get along...soooo...I'll update this later if I remember.

Currently using the stock shift knob but I used to roll with a Moddiction Anvil, but boy does that metal get scorching in the summertime

Here's the best I could get through Google for my '94 Accord:
Here's my wife's '13 Accord. It's actually a very small shift knob which takes some getting used to.

I like it. Wish I at least had the ability to change it, I don't know that it's actually threaded...

Would show a few more pictures, and my Beetle's, but for some reason, when I click to choose a file from my computer, it opens up folders fine, then Google Chrome crashes..only when I open to choose a file though, and doing the same thing on facebook too..wtf -.-

If I move fast enough it works.. odd... anyway, first comment is the stock 350 Z shifter (of which I hope to replace soon because I hate the stock shifter) and below is the one in my 65' Beetle

I can't really find a picture of a 5 speed BMW mini shifter attached to the car (and mine in parked on the other side of campus and I'm sure as hell not hiking a mile just to take a pic of my shifter) however I did find a picture of my actual shifter knob.

Too lazy to SR20 right now, so here's a 9-3 shifter from GIS.

That's why I avoided a metal shifter. its either burning hot or freezing cold. I hope to get a real wood knob next, but man can they get expensive.

Series IIa gearshift courtesy Google.
Benz
Wrong version of the Ranchero (fairlane), but shifter's effectively identical.

I also had a textured one but that thing got freezing also during this winter that I pretty much wore gloves 24/7, I'm assuming it's still just all metal underneath. I'd love to find a leather wrapped round knob. I like the size on the stock one but the shape, not so much.

Heres a picture of my shifter, no pics actually in my '03 justa Cooper. This knob was made by me where I work part time between classes, its a replica Pagani Zonda shift knob. Chromoly steel with black walnut inlay. Feels amazing while driving.
edit: keep getting kinja'd, will try again soon

No shift pattern to really throw off the car thieves.
![]() 02/24/2014 at 13:23 |
|
Unless the pattern is actually different than usual I don't think it'd be much of an obstacle.

I was joking, the real reason I did it was just for a cleaner look. We all know car thieves can't drive manuals anyway.

I'm envious of your thieves in America. :(

Dart's Plastic, Metal looking shift knob:

Looks like the one from AR Giulietta, so be careful. They're well known for falling apart relatively quickly (the top part comes off).
![]() 02/24/2014 at 14:27 |

It's a carbon copy, IIRC.
They fall apart? Great....

Not my picture, but I have the same setup.

I have two at the moment, the carbon/delrin knob is great in the hot & cold, but I really wanted a sphere one. and the new one comes with a sock to keep it from melting my hand in the summer.
