Ever have someone reply to something you've posted with more hate and vitriol than it deserves? Ever see paragraph after paragraph of rage induced response to you daring to have an opinion on a subject?

Ever just read the first line of rage filled words then...just click dismiss? Banishing all their effort to the ether, where no one will ever see it? Wasting the minutes, hours, weeks it took them to craft a response?

God damn I love the dismiss icon. This is the dance I do when I use it.

I too dislike the "big man behind a keyboard" phenomenon. Life's too short.

Question: do you ever dismiss a comment just because it's, you know, boring? If this disappears into the ether I guess I'll have my answer. :-)

Well exactly. If I had "f you" money, I'd be too busy doing other fun stuff. Unless there was someone I particularly enjoyed giving a hard time, but then they'd probably be a friend anyway. :-)

I'd host an Oppo meet in like, the middle of somewhere and use my wealth to help get them's what couldn't afford it to come out, then I'd go all out - rent out VIR or something, set up some autocross and hire Christy Canyon to come spread her legs and give the 4x4 guys somewhere to mud it up.

It'd be epic.

And everyone would leave with a brown, diesel, manual, wagon.

Some people like talkin' shit. I didn't know there was a dismiss button. I usually just don't read it then reply with my own text wall, which will subsequently not be read. I mean, I have been on the internet a while, I think I got the hang of it.

I don't think I've ever posted anything that wasn't un-serious, self-mocking, or an attempt at being helpful. I usually don't get nasty replies. Most of them are people who didn't get my joke, the vast majority of the time it being my fault for being exceptionally obscure. For the small handful of true assholes here, I give them my collection of truly bizarre gifs.

OR IF I'M CONFRONTING A TROLL, I USE SHOUTING WORDS NOW BECAUSE THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND CALM AND REASONABLE.

I don't dismiss, because that would be unsporting.

I've only dismissed one person. It was some asshole who said my computer mouse wasn't good enough because it wasn't name brand even though both our mice had the same specs, and I told him I couldn't tell the difference between this mouse and my similarly spec'd Logitech mouse, and because of this he ranted about how I'm stupid and do drugs. And he went on. So I dismissed all of his comments.

This reminded me of a reply I had one over on Giz a while ago (possibly pre Kinja). It was on an article about Apple working on an eye following function similar to what Samsung has. Me, being a smartass, decided I'd make an "Apple copies everything" joke along the lines of:
Dear Apple,
You don't have to copy EVERYTHING Samsung does.

Well apparently that severely offended somebody with a degenerative muscle disease who proceeded to call me an insensitive dick among other things. This led me to go full-on Randall Graves (think Clerks II) on this person and show them how a truly "insensitive dick" would reply... The reply got deleted but I'm pretty sure it began with "Since you're apparently in the mood to be offended today, allow me to truly be an insensitive dick and compose a post worthy of the "extreme pain" of look/blinking-out your excessively personal, vitriolic response..."
I actually felt a little bad about it until I went back and re-read their original reply.
