This could also signal a small evolution, in the Kodo design language, as it is the first Mazda concept, since the Takeri.

As you can remember, the new Mazda 3 had no concept to preview it, mainly because it took design elements that were already present, in the Takeri and Minagi concepts.

Also, about the next Mazda 2, Fiesta, prepare to meet your maker.
