You can cry about Group B rallying all day long. You can moan about the lack of gigantic turbos and power. You can say FWD is lame. One car rules and beats them all:
The Citroen Xsara Kit Car. One of the best looking and sounding rally cars ever to be put on the surface of a rally stage. The car that was able to beat its 4WD, WRC-class competitors on tarmac stages. A compilation video just popped up on my YT subscription list, so I just leave it right here:

If the Xsara is cool, I prefer its sister, the 306 Maxi. Especially with Gilles Panizzi behind the wheel.

Yeah, they are essentially the same cars, I just prefer the looks of the Xsara better. The 306 Maxi was my default choice to drive in SEGA Rally 2.

The last good looking Citroen ever made.

But the 306 never beat the whole WRC field for a 1-2 podium finish, like Philippe Bugalski and Jesús Puras did in the '99 Tour de Corse.
I watched that go down in a live broadcast on Eurosport, where they did 100% coverage of a stage. As a TV rally event, that broadcast was the best I've ever seen.
And yes, that sound. A 2 liter naturally aspirated 4-banger belting out 295 horsepower, sending it to the front wheels, propelling a 950 kg car. That shriek, like a pissed off Satan, still makes me giggle.

HELL YES a thousand times!
One of (if not) my favorite rally cars ever. I don't even care it's WWD, the awesomese factor in that little french bullet is so high that it negates any bad thing going for it.
