Oh god, it's the auto too. It's a lost cause the very second it rolled out of the factory. It has a lowered redline since the transmission can't handle it but that redline prevents proper oil circulation only possible by slamming redline.

Foolproof plan for NP status...
Offer $2400 for car
Buy 5/6sp rx8 transmission - $500
Buy rebuild kit with goopy 3mm seals - $1400
Pick up turbo kit off of someone who blew up their 6 port - $3000

Some clarification for non-RX8 owners: Renesis motor warranties were 8 years, 100k miles for the early engines with less oil injectors, all of which have expired. There is zero chance Mazda replaces the motor on this under warranty. That said, an automatic 2005 RX8 with 71k miles on the chassis in running condition is worth $6k. Subtract either $4k for a Mazda remanufactured motor reinstalled or $2k for a junk yard motor if the plan is to flip the car, and you're bordering on a good deal until you factor in the body damage and missing hood. the car could be parted out for a profit, but only if time isn't valued. so, for a majority of people, crack pipe. and, for the people that this is a nice price for, you could honestly make more money elsewhere if you applied yourself.

The 4port renesis out of the automatics handle boost a lot better due to better support for the side seals, not to mention the lack of boost drop when aux runners open. That paired with some good quality oversized seals really takes care of most failure points, puts it at least on par with the turboII motors as far as reliability goes.

The only exception is if you live in a hilly city (San Fransisco, Seattle, etc.) and there's so much traffic.
