lil'bit of sideswipe

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Noticed on the weekend when I drove over a steep driveway entrance/exit I get a clunk in the front end. Had the tires off today just to see if visually any of the bushing were shot.
Decided since it is slightly above freezing that I would rinse 3 months of road salt and grime off the car, this uncovered a 3ft long by 6"high swipe down my driver door and partially on the front fender. Through the paint, chipping already in a patch, and mini dents all along the area.
Just fucking lovely.
The only thing about this car I care about is resale. In needs to last me until the Fall when I jump into a new Canyon.

Is it such a big deal in this world to leave a note and fess up to your momentary stupidity?

Can you feel it with your nail? Looks like a lot of it will buff out.

I know that feeling. Some fucker did the same thing to my 2nd gen eclipse back when I owned it. I even went so far as to find the car (A jeep with a matching scar with my paint embedded at the same height routinely parking in the same area) and notify the police...

They didn't do anything

It's pretty deep all along, in the second picture, top right in the scratched section where it is pretty defined markings, that's metal.

Then your only choice is the body shop. If your worried about resale, chances are if you pay cash they won't report it to carfax. Then only if they do a terrible job or if your dealer does a paint thickness check (doubt it on run of the mill cars) they won't know. But you know, that's bad and you shouldn't do that...

When you reported it to insurance did they try to go after the guy? Insurance companies seem less likely to let this kind of thing slide (at least hopefully more so than the police).

Just had liability at the time, did not even bother contacting them.

I was hit about 3 weeks ago with no note. Put a fist sized hole in the upper part of my bumper (from a tow hitch, I assume) and broke the lower part so much that I had to just rip it off and live without it. People suck.
