Unlike most of the other craigslist finds I post on here I'm actually looking at this one seriously. 4 race lemons veteran. Came in second overall and first in B class at high planes in 2011. Put into storage right after the race and hasn't moved since. I've been texting with the owner, he's asking $4k and is including three full sets of safety gear which is worth a pretty penny. I want to race lemons, but I really don't think I have the time to fully prep a car as much as I'd like to, this would be a great shortcut. Opinions?

I thought..I thought Lemons cars had to cost way less then that?

The base car has to cost $500 or less. However safety gear(cage, brakes, tires, seat, harness, helmet, nomex suit, etc.) doesn't count towards that total. $4000 for a crappy car with a legal cage seat & harness, 3 sets of nomex is not far off.

$4k with a cage and three sets of racing gear? deal all day if you want to do a lemons team. sell seat time for $500 per race and you might get your money back if it doesn't get rolled.

I think the cage would probably need some updating. It hasn't raced since 2011 and I think the cage rules have changed since there with regards to passenger bars. But that wouldn't be an expensive fix.

again, deal all day. have you raced lemons yet? because you should before you buy. if you have then go for it.

I have not raced lemons. I've been working on a friends car but haven't actually done a race yet. Joined a private racetrack a little over a month ago where I could get a lot of shakedown time and have access to a huge number of lemons/chump veterans though.

I don't have a way of getting it from california. I can drive to Lubbock in about 5 hours.

Also doesn't include seat, harness, or the three full sets of safety gear I would get with the Dodge.

Have the safety gear looked over before signing a deal, if it all has been in storage with the car then there's a chance it has been compromised. But even with that I personally don't buy any safety gear second-hand, everything may look good but you just don't know.
