now that I am home for a week, i have to leave my beautiful alienware in thunder bay and use my dads laptop for browsing oppo and car throttle and top gear and the like.

he doesn't have anti virus, he doesn't have ad-block, and he doesn't trust any of that software because he had a bad experience once....

l;et me tell you, i had NO idea kinja had so many god-dam ads.

here, have a brown, manual, AWD semi-station wagon (that james may loves) for your troubles.

I hate having to use any computer other than my own. I have so many add-ons installed (over a dozen) and so many tweaks made to Firefox that literally anyone else's computer just feels like garbage.

Totally destroys my workflow.

I understand. The first thing I do on any computer is to install adblock. At work, at friends, anywhere. I just can't deal with the intrusiveness anymore, just like I can't stand watching (commercial, unlike BBC) TV anymore. Too many ads, it's just too annoying for me to enjoy the site/series/movie/whatever.

Time to learn about portable apps. Could solve some of your problems.

As far as AV software goes, its just a part of life. No software is more than 60% effective. He should consider MSE because it is a low resource program, and is not intrusive like other programs. Id hate to know what could be lurking on his machine. I hope hes at least not using IE. As a repair tech, I wouldnt leave the machine without at least checking it. But my parents are pretty bad with computers, so I can understand your fathers decision to not deal with it.

Alienware? Meh. Its an overpriced, already overpriced Dell.

the alienware i bought more for the size and having the option to upgrade parts in the future. (it is the X-51)

he computer isnt BAD. it was my old 'gaming' laptop until i got the alienware(desktop). but its got none of my things on it anymore (no ad-block, no favourites, etc etc)

The X-51 as in the slim one? What's upgradeable on that? HDD to SSD and RAM...nothing else to upgrade in it, given the size and limited cooling ability.

Unless you meant the Area 51, which is so far beyond overpriced it isn't even funny anymore. I spent less money on a dual Xeon setup. I simply cannot figure out how/why people manage to justify Alienware machines...I've seen so many fail for so many different reasons, I would never pay money for an Alienware machine. The support isn't even that great. If you want a Dell that includes support, you get a business series machine, then the support is in Texas.

yea, the slim one. already has HDD and SSD, ram is upgradable, as is videocard, Cd drive, chip...cooling is more then fine, which i was impressed by

was it the best bang/buck purchese? oh god no. was it the best given what I wanted in a comp(at the time)? it was. (plus i got it for like 300 off thanks to a sale)

That so called wagon should be sold in North America as a Nissan or Datsun. Personally I find it better looking than what Nissan is selling now

That's why I am saying Nissan should bring here as a Nissan or Datsun, since Dacia is part of the Renault-Nissan family. If it was available here in North-America I would seriously consider it when I am ready to replace my awd sx4.
I really like the looks of the duster, but the duster name would not fly here because of Chrysler.
