4C. I'd rather own something that's going to have a limited run and be potentially be worth something well into the future then 2014 Cayman #212833.

As much as I love manuals, the Alfa is the pretty choice.

Oh god, I went to click Alfa, but at the lase second changed to Cayman. It's 130% more refined and only 20% less fun.

Hmm, the DCT in the Alfa vs the manual in the Cayman means there's actually a battle between which car is more desirable. The Alfa should have more soul- it's an Alfa Romeo, not a over-engineered bratwurst. But yet, it has a DCT only. That means they sacrificed pure driving pleasure for a 10th of a second at the track.

The German car still gives you the choice. So I'm going Porsche.

No clutch: No want. Frankly I would probably take the Stingray or the Lotus

I'll take the mid-engined European coupe. What's that? They're both mid-engined European coupes? Well then, how convenient.

My guess is that they sacrificed the stick not for track time but due to cost. They don't want to offer a stick if the take rate is going to be low.

Cayman, and it was a difficult choice but I came down on the side of Porsche for one reason and one reason alone; it's a Porsche and not an Alfa.

Pragmatic? Probably. Also, clutch.

I wonder what the gas mileage will be on the EPA tests.

Who needs a Prius when you can have a tiny sports car with a turbo charged 1.75L engine?

But it would have been lighter and it would have elevated the 4c to Godcar status in the minds of enthusiasts.

A 6C would be awesome, of course I'd have an even smaller chance of some day owning one.

Kinja'd!!!0

I know...

But they don't care. They want to be like big brother Ferrari and be DCT only.

It's sad.

If I only had one car and it was DCT I would get insanely bored with it. The only reason it's OK that the E90 has a DCT is because I switch back into the 6MT when I get bored.

DCTs are awesome when you're in heavy traffic or focusing on performance above all else. But they are too clinical for having fun while puttering around. The herky jerky single clutch robotized manuals are more engaging and fun to use than than a DCT.

Unless it ended up being unreliable.

Then we could buy them cheap and swap an American crate engine into it.

Oh lord I just had an idea. Would it be doable to swap an LS into one of these 6MT beauties?

If you bought a DCT when a manual is available you're part of the problem. You can say now that you can just go drive your other M3. But one day, that car will be old, and you won't be able to find parts for it. But a manual won't be available then- because people just like you justified getting the DCT.

BMW asked you what you wanted, and you, an enthusiast, voted DCT. Your vote matters. Ours- most of ours- doesn't. You, somebody actually spending money on the cars, you matter to BMW. And you voted to have the computer do all the work?

I know, I suck...

But to my defense I actually do use the more boring DCT setup for work reasons. Sometimes I have to commute from OC to LA and back at very inopportune times. Those are the times when I really love having the DCT and auto mode.

I know what you mean, people have to vote with their pocketbooks. I just like having one of each for different scenarios. And at least my purchase had no impact on BMW's forecasting as I didn't buy the car new.

I hate this poll.

I can't decide.

The Alfa is beautiful, and I love Alfa.

But the Porsche is a manual, and I miss shifting when I drive an automatic.

I don't think I am going to vote.

The E46 was going to be a street legal track car and occasional commuter. But I kept it stock and am trying to sell it to pay off some debt. Then there will no longer be an M3 for different circumstances.

To make myself feel better about losing one of the lowest mileage E46 M3s around I dream about Gallardos with gated shifters. Or F430s. Or Doug's car. Any Italian with a gated shifter would be cool some day...

Kinja'd!!! Manuél Ferrari > MtrRider
02/19/2014 at 01:43

Kinja'd!!!0

Haha no. It gets more confusing.

The E46 M3 is SMG (also purchased used, so don't blame me for telling BMW to stop selling sticks). The E90 M3 is DCT.

The other car is the 6MT. So don't worry I'm not ditching the stick. Far from it, it gets the most usage.

Kinja'd!!! MtrRider > Manuél Ferrari
02/19/2014 at 01:52

Kinja'd!!!1

Holy crap dude, you have a BMW for every handicap spot in the parking lot don't you?

Ok. So you have a SMG, a DCT and a stick. All M3, all different generations?

I think I'm beginning to sound like a massive asshole. That's not what I'm going for.

Haha no, but that would be awesome! Imagine if the other car was an E36 or E30 M3. I would be a walking M3 documentary.

No the other car is a 997 C2. Which I accidentally damaged last weekend. That was my bad karma for having too many kars

It is not possible to have too many cars.

It is possible to deal with family court. I choose not to do this, so I have my two BMWs and my truck.

It is also possible to think your insurance company hates you.
