Kinja'd!!!

So is $1139.29/year too high a rate for a great looking single man in his early 40s with a totally clean driving record for the last 20 years? Vehicle insured is a 2013 FR-S.

Seems high to me. Anyone else insuring a Toyobaru? What do you pay?

Seems about right. I'm 30, no accidents, and a laundry list of speeding tickets, and I pay around $89/month.

~$1200 a year?!?! For a Toyobaru?

I paid that much in 6 months for an SVT Focus....

I'm a 25 year old male with an '02 BMW and old Jeep with another driver and one accident in the past 5 years. I'm at $1230/year with full coverage on the BMW and minimal on the Jeep. I'd say yours is a bit high.

I pay nearly that much for 2nd-tier minimum comprehensive on a 1991 Audi 80 quattro.

I'd hardly call it unreasonable for full coverage on a sports car.

I pay 189 a month for my Turbalt, and my Mazda, spotless record, 20 year old male..

2260 a year for the both. the Balt has full coverage with a 500$ deductable, and the Mazda has the minimum insurance.

58/mo for a 2014 BMW 3 series for a 29yo male professional and one speeding ticket.

Seems a bit high. I only paid $65/mo ($780/yr with $500 deductible) for my 06 LGT. At the time I was a single, 24 y/o male with 2 speeding tickets on his record

Given age and record, I'd say it's too high. Seems reasonable for someone in their 20s.

I was quoted ~850ish when I was looking at the BRZ. Married, 32, clean record, 2 other cars on the policy. It seems a bit high, but not astronomical if you have full coverage, road side assistance, low deductible, and no multi-policy discounts

Ended up getting a Fiesta ST and that's ~700 for me.

2013 BRZ + 2004 STi = $2100 a year. 23yrs old in Boston.

That's what I pay per year for a 2012 Supercharged (510hp) Range Rover Sport and 2/3rds the insurance on a SLS. I'm 32, clean record. Chubb is my carrier. Those rates are for max coverage and agreed upon value, unlimited mileage. Yours seems a little high.

Check to see what your policy covers. For instance, if you have good health insurance, you don't need to pay for "Medical Expenses" through your auto insurance (these are the hospital bills for the driver ONLY in case of an accident, other drivers are covered under your 50/100/50 or whatever you carry). Also, if your car's under warranty, you can eliminate "Mechanical Breakdown," and possibly "Roadside Assistance" as they are usually covered under manufacturer warranty. I did that just the other day and saved myself about 120-150/year. Also, don't put your deductible below 500, raise to 1000 if you have enough savings to do so.

How much would the rate be on one of these in the U.S.? I'm just over $1100 in AU. Under 30, spotless driver history.

I'm 24, with a '92 GTI and a '13 BRZ on the same policy. Clean record (besides two tickets, no points so they don't mean anything) and I'm under that cost for both cars.

02/18/2014 at 17:26

Kinja'd!!!1

Just things to keep in mind

If you want mechanical breakdown coverage after the warranty expires you typically had to have had it within a year of the car leaving the lot.

Roadside assistance from automakers can be very different from insurance companies. Some will only cover towing to a dealer within a certain radius and can have various surcharges for things like jumps or flat tires. Make sure you compare the differences and pick the one that fits best for you.

Like 1050 a year for someone in their mid 20s with low milage and quite good coverage in the Boston area for an FR-S. Seems a bit high for your age unless you live somewhere really crappy.

If you think that rate is high, don't move to Toronto.

I have a 5-star rating - the highest. I only have liability. My car is a 2002 Impala LS.

And I pay about the same as you do :/

I am not driving an 86 platform, but my 07 F350 Diesel was running me $1200/yr. and that was the most expensive vehicle I have insured. Even my 2011 S4 was under $1000/yr. (barley but still under). FYI I am in my late 20s with no at fault accidents or violations in over 5 years.

Kinja'd!!! Sir Halffast > jariten1781
02/18/2014 at 17:52

Kinja'd!!!1

Very true. The counter to that is that if your car doesn't have particularly expensive parts, you're probably better off paying for mechanical repairs out of pocket than taking on the increased premiums.

My old non-turbo MR2 was quoted at 1200 by AAMI and only insured for 6K

(new Turbo MR2 is insured for 13k and the premium is only $600~ with JustCar. Go figure)

27 and spotless too.

I am sure location plays into these rates. Check this out:

http://www.dailyfinance.com/2011/03/14/mos…

I have a 98 S320 in MD and pay ~$791 per year, liability only. When I turned 25 last month, my rate went down a whole $2 per year. Maybe getting married will help these rates.

South Eastern, PA. Keep in mind the GTI accounts for under $200 a year, the BRZ is a bit under $1k by itself. Also, some of the discounts (like accident free) aren't being applied on the BRZ yet, since I've only owned it for a few months.
