God, you reminded me of the time I found Master of Brutality in a record store. The WTF factor when I realized it was John Wayne Gacy on the cover cannot be accurately put into words. Good music though. Little weird, but good.

I first heard Church of Misery from a friend of mine. I don't know how he said he stumbled across them. But I remember listening to "I, Motherfucker" and being pretty impressed by the riffs in that song.
After I managed to move beyond their, uh, creative choice in theme, I was genuinely impressed that they really managed to capture that early Sabbath vibe without being a group of total wannabes. Like you said, they're a weird band, but good.
