I like how it's sideways in the picture.

Anything with snow tires > 4wd/awd with all seasons. People still do not understand this. They spend thousands of extra dollars on awd because of snow when they could just go buy a set of snow tires. I finally convinced my mother of this and she couldn't be happier with her Fusion even though it's been the hardest winter in recent memory.

AWD with snow tires. This is what I want to see.

Disclosure: I live in Houston, where there is no such thing as "snow tires".

Oooooo I am commiserating with you brother. I am in NC and we just got a light sprinkling. Z was pretty much useless.

Its not scene to much snow, a fair bit, don't drive it in the snow if I'm in a hurry for sure, lol. Mostly driving a 65' Beetle with all season tires in the snow, but drove the Z for a week in 6 inches of snow once when the Beetle's alternator went out, and drove it in the snow on the day pictured cus I hadn't driven it in a while and it was easier to use to jump a friends car then using the Beetle, lol

I use a decent set of Conti All-seasons on my AWD Volvo and have never had any issue. I can't afford both summer and winter tires. Sometimes it's not the drivetrain/tires but just the skill of the driver.

I do agree with you, but awd even with all seasons might have the edge in acceleration and not getting stuck based off my car (fwd with an lsd and snows) vs my friend's rex (with all-seasons). That being said braking and turning suffer greatly. I'm pretty sure my car could stop from 20-0 in the snow about 2o-30 feet before his could.

Obviously driver skill matters, but having a set of winter tires makes a huge difference. Having a set of summer and winter tires isn't as expensive as you'd think, sure it's an upfront cost but then each set lasts longer individually and you have more grip in each season.

I have never had AWD and lived in an area with 120 ft of snow annually.

Except when the driveway is a massive hill, and with massive snow drifts that recovered all the snow you just snowblowed the other day, and you get stuck 3 times, reblow the entire driveway, shovel, try again, only to get stuck just a few feet from the top and have to lay down kitty litter as a last ditch effort after again snow blowing because the wind blew it all back over another time, to finally make it up after well over an hour of work.

And my mom just waltzes up in 4wd in her tahoe first try, didnt even have to get a running start. She has exactly same tire tread pattern and tread life as i do.

So 4wd does make a difference in my case.

yes im grumpy and i probably took 50K miles off my clutch life (and who knows what else) trying to get my hill.

I feel your pain. When it iced over for a couple days here in Texas, I could barely get my Camaro out of the driveway. It wasn't so bad on the main roads where they'd at least used some road salt, but residential streets were complete nightmares. The nice thing about Texas is that half the time we don't even get snow all year though, so I rarely have to worry about it.

I've got a more wintery car fortunately (65 beetle with all seasons) they don't do anything to my side roads here..and I'm in Colorado, lol
