Got this in my 03 XC70 on a ~30 mile drive from school to home. To put it in perspective, the EPA rating is like 17-21 MPGs and I RARELY get over 20.

1) Did you reset before your drive?

2) Was this on highway or around town?

Should we exclude hybrids from this thread? The best I've done is in the mid-40's on my g/f's C-Max. It included a fair amount of both surface road and interstate driving.

Eco driving to the max. I didn't go over 60mph (speed limit is 45/55 depending on road conditions, roads were wet at the time).

the most ive ever gotten in my 2000 (Trans Am) Firehawk ( 5.7L LS1 and T56 6 speed) is 33.6 doing 60 on the highway and even going through Los Angeles rush hour on the highway. ( mpgs calculated by dividing the miles since last fill up with gallons put in at current fill up)

Probably about 47 mpg (US) in one of these. I will have to add that it was a diesel with a manual. You didn't really have to try that hard to get numbers like that, it was realistic as long as you avoided stop and go traffic and 80 mph highway runs.

Still, it's rather good for an (almost) midsize car from the 80s.

Used to manage upwards of 35 MPG in my 97 Civic a few years back. Think the most I ever saw was 38 or 39 on a trip from Orlando to Ft. Lauderdale (all highway driving when it was only about 50 or 60 degrees and very little humidity).

Lately though, I average about 28 MPG city. I blame it on wear and tear as well as more ethanol going into gas these days.

1991 Audi 80 Quattro 5MT: I average around 24, but I've gotten as high as 31. Oddly enough, the gearing gives me the best mileage around town, as the engine rev's pretty high on the highway.

1987 Honda Prelude 5MT: Same issue as the Audi- better mileage in town. Averaged around 27mpg, but got as high as 34 one time.

1994 Subaru Legacy AWD 4AT: Averaged around 20mpg, but it got as high as 31 on the highway pretty consistently.

1997 Saturn SC2 5MT: Averaged around 27mpg, but could get 36mpg on the highway. When it ran.

1994 Hyundai Excel 3dr 5MT: Motherfucking 41mpg combined, with a recorded 57mpg on the highway. I routinely got 46mpg on average for my commute. Hell yeah!

If I keep it below 55, shift into 6th early and often, and move with traffic rather than faster than traffic I can pull about 43mpg out of the FieSTa... if I drive it like I WANT to that number gets closer to 20.

15.5 is impressive for the Canyonero. I don't know if I have ever gotten that much. I don't really keep track, but I would be surprised if I ever did more than 14 over the course of a full tank.

I got bored one week in my TDI and decided to see how good of mileage I could get on my commute. With some help from green lights, I can do about 40 on the way to work, and 70 on the way home from work, for an average of around 55 for the round trip (I bet you can guess the direction of elevation change between my house and my office). I don't nearly have the patience to consistently get those numbers, though. I tend to use liberal amounts of the go-pedal and usually average something like 35mpg.

Kinja'd!!! Singhjr96 > Frosted

For me it really does depend on how much traffic there is. If there's not a lot and I'm in the mood 15-25mpg (there's this one really curvy mountain road on my way home) :) If there's no traffic and i'm not in the mood (rarely) I'll get 35 or 40 on average. there's this one bit I always get 60+ mpg on, and it isn't even on a hill, just flat. in traffic like 26 which is what it's rated at.

I know. I really want to. Once my leg heals up better, I am hoping I can convince a few of my mountain biking friends to make the trip with me.

On the bright side, yesterday I rode a bike for the first time since my accident. I think I am still a ways off from doing serious mountain biking, but it felt really good to just pedal around town for a bit.
