Just watched this episode of Jay Leno's Garage about classic California Highway Patrol vehicles, and I was surprised that Leno appeared to predict that the '82 Mustang would be the favorite of the old timer CHP guest he had on. Now, I would love to spend some quality time on Interstate 5 with a lightweight Fox body Mustang coupe with a 5.0 and manual tranny as much as anybody, but anyone who has heard or read more than a few stories about Mopars and/or the Highway Patrol knows the legend that is the '69 Polara.
From !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! :
"1969 was the year of the ultimate squad; for a quarter century afterwards, nothing could match its performance capability - the 1969 Polara Pursuit. This was the apex of the high-power era, the last year before lower compression engines and tightening emisions requirements. The 1969 Polara Pursuit, with its 375 bhp 440, sleek new "fuselage" bodystyle, and standard 3.23 axle, could do 0-60 in 6.3 seconds , the quarter mile in 14.3 seconds (at over 99 mph), and run out to a top speed of (or, by some accounts, above) 147 mph."

I bet he finds a 69 Polara now for his stash.
A buddy from high school had a 69 Polara drop top with the TNT 440. That thing could scoot!
There's no way it was only 375 HP (gross).
