But a "cheap" Jaguar can still be a very expensive car. :D

Nothing depreciates like a Jaaaaaaag.

I've heard from owners that those first-gen XK's are murder to maintain. Still, I have been tempted.

Goddamn if that XK8 is not a real decent modern take on the XKE.

And I actually think the lines of the first-gen look better than the second-gen. It's more svelte.

Yup At the the Ford dealer I worked at we had an 2004 S-type w 114k on it we paid 5000 for on trade for a used Cherokee. That was in September and the Jag is still sitting on the used lot w a 6k price tag on it.

There's nothing more expensive than a cheap luxury car. Except maybe a cheap Jag.

This. I have a longing for the style of that car, and I can actually fit in one. But I still fear the upkeep on them. They are pretty reliable, but I grew up in the world of Hondas and now Mazdas, where the worst disaster won't bankrupt you like a luxury car can.

indeed like a "cheap" Audi, or a "cheap" BMW, or a "cheap" basically an European car.

Blue car is an XKR I believe.

Either way, they are at the awkward "old-modern" stage where yeah, they are cool and might seem like a bargain but there's a lot of stuff that has some years on it.

Saw one of these XK8 sitting alone in my school parking lot. It was a dark cold night and the beauty of the thing nearly brought me to tears...not really but man are those things gorgeous.

Jags really do not hold their value. as others have already said. Here an example I just found looking for AWD manual trans cars on CL. I don't know what the original MSRP on an AWD X-type was but for it to only be ten years old with 88k miles and only retail for 7,ooo seems really low. But the funny thing is the KBB suggested Retail is only like 4500.

Any 'cheap' luxury European car, certainly. I realise they're not available in the US, but it'd be best not to forget about Peugeot, Citroen, Renault and FIAT (and Ford of Europe, if you're willing to include them). You can generally get parts dirt cheap for the lot of them.

From the seller:

"The engine seized (cylinder sleeve failure) and requires a new block. The top of the engine is perfect. If you are looking for a 'perfect' car to add an engine, this is the one."

DANGER, WILL ROBINSON!

At that price, I feel like there's gotta be someone out there that would pay that just to set it in there driveway and look at it.

Man, every time I window shop on Craig's I take a peek at XKs. They were a bargain 5 years ago, now it's just ridiculous. They're just so goddamn pretty. I'm thinking about building another garage at my house, and if I do, it'll be a real tough call between one of these and an e24. I've always wanted a proper GT car.

I've heard these are actually pretty low-maintenance. Something is made of plastic that shouldn't be, I think the timing chain. If you pony up and replace it with a proper one before it breaks, these are supposed to be pretty solid.

I suppose I don't really think about the European cars that aren't available in America. And as far as Peugeot, Citroen, Renault and FIAT, and also Alfa Romeo in America are conserned they're all so old and uncommon that here they are expensive to maintain.
