So last weekend I was in Austin to look at wedding venues with my fiancee (don't worry this is car related). On Friday, her brother and my mother joined us, we were driving around in my C63.
So on our way out to one in Dripping Springs I see this Camaro SS coming up like a bat out of hell behind me. This guy is cutting everyone off, never using his blinker. He pulls up next to me, revs his engine and then cuts me off (again, no blinker). I end up next to him at the next light and he revved his engine a few times, then tore off when the light turned green.
At the next light, I made my mistake. Okay, let me start off with a few things: I know I shouldn't try to race people on the street, and I do know this road very well (no pedestrians, you can see about a mile out from it, empty road conditions too), but for some reason this guy just annoyed the hell out of me. So again he revs the crap out of his engine. I don't look at him, but my fiancee's brother says he's looking over at me thinking he just showed me. So I mention to everyone that I am putting the transmission into sport mode.
Light turns green, I floor it. I hear him fail to get grip then catch it and see him in my mirror soon after. As soon as I hit 65 (the speed limit), I get off the gas and lightly touch the brakes. He blasts by me going probably about 75 mph, only to get pulled over a 2 miles down the road.
So: I know I shouldn't race on the streets, but that was fun.
(For clarity: I know the picture is a RS not an SS, also my C63 is a sedan, not a coupe)

Well, considering you didn't cross the speed limit, it's definitely forgivable. And he got his come-uppings in the end.

You were just getting to the speed limit quickly. Nothing wrong with that.

You could of just called him in for reckless driving. But you did inspire me to do this.

Technically it isn't racing if you quit at the speed limit. . . He was going to speed no matter what and you just showed him that he doesn't have as big of a dick as he thought he did. You didn't do a bad thing, you helped someone learn a lesson. . .

As I was typing that I knew it sounded stupid. I don't really remember what I said.

At least you did it intelligently. Hopefully the ticket will prevent that guy from driving like that and potentially hurting someone.

The RS is just a trim package.

Cops can still get you even if you never pass the speed limit if they consider it a 'contest of speed'. Instant license revocation in some jurisdictions too. Be careful out there.

That's perfect.

You could fight that, it is an arbitrary definition if they try to give it to you when you don't break the limit. They might try to pin you with an unsafe start if you have wheel spin but I think you are more than likely safe if you stop the full throttle romp before the limit.

Correct. The one in the picture looks to be an SS with the RS package.

Seconding this, pretty sure it is an SS.

I feel like I have set myself up here. This isn't going to end anytime soon is it?

Nope. You'll soon get the wave of purists telling you "sport mode" is something your left foot and right foot should coordinate on and figure out. After that you might get some Vin Diesel gifs. Maybe a "that escalated quickly" meme as well.

Seems like you have everything planned out. Make sure top get the pictures ready.
(Also, no manual option on the C63)

I can see the future...

Hopefully not.....

Oh, I'm not very knowledgeable about Camaros, so I always thought the RS was the highest V6 trim.

I know street racing is look heavily frowned upon here, but can't lie. Ive done it. I'll admit it I've raced a C6 or 2 and maybe a bike or 2. I dont think it makes me an asshole or and outlaw. Generally I actually drive the speed limit or under. My car sounds pretty distinct. If I drive like anything other than an elderly person I get a ticket.

It's okay, we've all done.
Hell, we mostly still do it.

That is fuckin' awesome. Well done.

I've done more evil thing. At the lights when I noticed a guy next to me stares at me (I'm a white guy, it's happening in China, so yeah, they stare) so I rev a bit and move a tiny bit forward. So does he. I do it again. So does he. So I rev big time and launch forward only to slam on the brakes and stop. He flies ahead like a canon ball. The light is still red.

It’s been long enough that I can probably share this without being hunted down and killed.
One night in high school I was a bit lost with a friend, when we came to an intersection with a light. It was dark and rainy, I didn’t know the place, and I thought there was a lane on the far right. I guess there wasn’t. The last car I passed was a Lumina, I think, and my mirror *barely* touched his as I went by - I had to move toward his car to avoid a curb I didn’t see until the last second. I’m SURE it didn’t do more than a scratch, but I panicked at the time and rather than stop and talk it over, I just kept going. Right, bad decision. I KNOW.
So the guy follows me for like, 25 minutes, tailgating me like parallel parking close, plus high beams. I drove the speed limit, hoping for a cop to see this idiot driving this way, high beams and all, and we could sort things out without us being killed. Or even better, he just gets pulled over and I go on my merry way. Nah, he dimmed his lights and backed off just in time when we passed the only cop we saw in 25 minutes.
So we came to a stoplight, and now I’m just thinking, how are we going to lose this guy? Can I run him out of gas? How long would that even take? Hmm. Two forward lanes, and we’re the only two cars at the intersection in any direction. He’s yelling at me, “why don’t you get out of the car so I can kick your ass?” and the light goes green. He FLOORS it, forgetting I guess that I’m in a 1.5 liter 4 cylinder Honda, and we go forward for a second, then behind him and left, into a dense neighborhood/small main street area. We pull in behind a building, shut off our lights, and wait about 5 minutes before pulling out and taking a back road the rest of the way home. Speaking of bad decisions, why did we hide for 5 minutes? What if he tracked back and happened to see my car? Why didn’t we just keep going on the back roads right away?!
Sorry buddy, for the scratch. But seriously, was it worth it? You wasted an hour of your life and got Marty McFly’d by a 16 year old in a base model, unmodified Civic. (you know, the scene where he goes in reverse instead of racing Biff, and Biff t-bones some other car).
So that’s my story.
