I come to thee with a question that troubles my mind. I am in Kansas City, and it has been snowing like crazy this winter. My dd is a 370z that I also Auto-X in. My dilemma is, whenever it snows I cannot use the car because it has summer tires. I am able to work remotely and get rides from co-workers that live nearby, so I can still get around. So ideally I should buy winter/all-season tires in order to drive more, but the next season starts soon. Not in a week or so, but definitely not in time to save up enough money to buy me some high-performance rubber like RE-11s. So do I wait out the winter, and buy the REs? Or should I buy the all-weahters and run my tracks on those? The snow is only supposed to last another month the longest.

Thanks! Have a snow cooled beer, courtesy of our lovely weather:

Winter wheels with winter tires. Swap them out as needed.

I considered this but I would have to up the cost by another thousand at least. I do like this idea however..

What's your wheel size?

Yokohama 245/40YR19 Front

Yokohama 285/35YR19 Back

But if I get an all season I'd probably get an 18 with smaller width, not sure what size tho. Less contact patch in the snow = better.

You can get these wheels for $100 each and not have to worry about it. $400, not $1k plus. You don't need expensive snow shoes, even if you are driving a fuckin' 370z in the snow.

Get some Blizzaks for ~$800 and you're in $1,200 total. All seasons aren't really great at anything and are only popular in the US. In Europe, cars some with summer tires standard and people are expected to get winter wheels and tires.

Your choice interests me more than it should. And down the line, I can eventually dedicate a set of shoes to the tracks since I will have the spare set on. Hm... you may have struck me on the logical side, and that is the only thing I understand. Thank you for the input.

Snow? What is this snow? LOL.....Central California native here

All joking aside, I would buy some used, cheap beater rims from a lower spec Z and throw some all-seasons on those. Or if not in budget, wait the month or so.

On the other hand, I did a couple of track days last year on all seasons and that was fun with less grip.

Hey you got the Arrowhead Mtn, I can assure you there is snow there haha. Whereabouts in CA? I frequent that area as I have family all over there.

Well as MtrRider suggested, that does sound like a good idea. Buying used/beater rims and blizzaks and leave the other set for the summer and track.

I'm in Fresno. 2.5 hours from LA, 2 hours to SF, 2 hours to the ocean, and 45 minutes to Yosemite.

Like the two others before, just get a set of cheap winter wheels and winter tires. you are better off that way and you'll have more fun not worrying about if it is too cold for your tires to have any apreciable grip. Two sets of wheels is the way to go. If I had to deal with winter weather that is how I'd go. But then again you got three californians telling you how to deal with winter. . . Hahahahahahahaha. I do wish I had an outside cooler like that though, cold beer and room in the fridge. . .

Lol well I am from Arizona so I understand your point. And I always wanted a second set, but I never thought of getting them so soon. And the cold is only useful when it snows because I get to work from home. Haha.
