For the next couple weeks, I'm gonna put out a preview for every F1 team for the 2014 season. I will try and be consistent and do it every weekday at 11:00 AM, but I know I'm lazy and may not get it every day, let me know what you think of my preview!

The Team:

Caterham F1

Origins:

Team Lotus, Lotus Racing

Team History:

Caterham F1 has been little more than a blip on the radar of F1 since its inception as Lotus Racing in 2010. They have never won, never scored a point and have highest Constructor's Championship finish of 10th in 2010, 2011, and 2012

The Car:

The Caterham CT-05, it is Renault powered, which has been the engine of choice the last few years of F1, so it does have that going for it. It is also green, very green.

Is the Nose a Gentleman's Sausage?

Yes, very much so.

The Drivers:

Kamui Kobayashi- Kobayashi got his F1 career started in 2009 earning a couple top 10 finishes for Honda subbing for the injured Timo Glock, before moving to Sauber in 2010. At Sauber he had mediocre results finishing 12th in the drivers' standings three years in a row and became the third Japanese driver to podium after finishing 3rd at Japan in 2012. He was let go at the end of 2012 and decided to focus on getting a competitive drive in 2014. He ended up at Caterham, so we will see how well that worked out.........

Marcus Ericsson- ROOKIE ALERT! Ericsson is starting his first year in F1 after four years in GP2 with two wins and a best points finish of 6th. He also competed in a young drivers test for Brawn GP in 2009.

The Sponsors:

General Electric and Airbus are primaries. CNN stays on as a secondary sponsor. I'm sure Marcus Ericsson is helping pay a few of the bills, especially after the team finished out of the money in 2013.

Why You Would Like This Team:

They have an appearance of being old and having lots of tradition (SOOO BRITISH!) even if they are Malaysian and formed in 2010. They are the lovable losers of F1 and walking around the track, you see more people wearing their gear than you would expect. Basically they are the Chicago Cubs of Formula 1, go for them if you revel in losing and watch the race as an excuse to drink beer.

My Expectations:

With reliability issues expected to affect teams early with everyone having new cars and the new engines, I wouldn't be surprised to see Caterham get lucky and score their first point. They will remain at the tail end of the field for most of the year, but I think they will beat their bitter rivals at Marussia and finish 10th in Constructors Points.

Small note: Kobayashi subbed at Toyota, not Honda. Otherwise, nice and I hope I catch the others.

Another bit to add about Caterham is that they employ the only American FIA Super License Holder... Give it another year, and we could see an American driver competing in F1 every week!
