Bear Mountain...New York? The weekly car show?

No not the weekly car show. A few times of years the NJ/PA Lotus owners head up there to "enjoy" the sights.

You have the DeLorean right? I've never seen the DeLorean at the weekly show....

They are pretty active and the events range from NY down to MD. Its a combination of PALS and LEO.

You kid, but I let anybody that can row-your-own have a turn driving it.

Yea I just wonder how many future jokes you have to put up with. I guess you knew that going into owning the car though.

I put up with them, the real issue is that EVERYBODY thinks that their joke is original. The best is when you mess with people and tell them that you have never heard of BTTF. It goes like this:
Dumbass: (Lame unoriginal BTTF, Flux Capacitor, Doc Brown, Marty, 88 mph, Cocaine joke).
Me: What?
Dumbass: You know Back to the Future? Christopher Lloyd? Micheal J. Fox?
Me: Teen Wolf? Secret of my Success?
Dumbass: You know-flying delorean, go back in time?
Me: No idea, but I saw The Frighteners.
Dumbass: (Walks away bewildered)

Ah I feel better now having not seen BTTF and making a somewhat original joke about owning a Lotus in the future through your help.
Having said that, how's rowing the gears in that car?

Compared to a new car, the shifts are extremely long and the gates are ambiguous. For a thirty year old car it is pretty sporty. Once you get used to it, it has that old school "mechanical" feel and sound as it goes into gear. The clutch is really easy to modulate and makes it so that it is really tough to stall. I put in a modified shifter(still have the original) to shorten the length of the shifts. Despite all the hoopla you hear it really is a fun car to drive. It feels faster than it is.

What are some problems you've run into? Are they wacky or common things?

Tires and alignment. The stock tire sizes are getting hard to find and alignment is almost the only thing I can't do in my garage. Thats it. Every other part can be mail ordered and shipped right to your house. Anytime you say "Delorean" at an auto parts store or tire shop, the techs get all "We can't/don't/won't work on that." It is a fairly simple car to work, with a lot of parts that can be cross referenced.

You do realize that the Delorean's frame is basically the same as the two Espirits? It's not a Lotus but it was lotus designed.
