They're just there for emissions and noise regulations. The car in the top clip has them removed, that's why the crackles are so loud. Full stock it still pops and crackles but not quite as loudly.

Leave the cat in there, having a straightpiped car is fun for a little while then it gets old and you get tired of smelling your exhaust. Maybe if it really gives you a benefit in your power curve it could be worth it taking it out, but for the most part taking the cat out on a majority of cars doesn't do much power wise and it just adds a shit ton of NOx to the air around your car.

Take those silencers out and be happy with having a bowl of Rice Krispy's in your exhaust. That would be one of the first things I'd do if I had your car. . .

I'm thinking exhause cutout. Leave the cat and have a valve before the mufflers so it dumps sound straight into the pavement. Open when I want to make some noise or just troll around and then close it for daily use. I really don't want to mess around too much with the Turbo X though, being as rare as it is...maybe the wagon will get some goodies once my sister starts driving it. She's getting one pretty awesome car and why not make it a little crazier?

I've deleted the resonator and secondary cat (after the O2 sensor, no CEL's) on my 2.8T v6 9-3, and to me it's perfect. Still quiet at idle once warm, (so I pass those MA state inspections) a bit of a growl during routine driving, and a very aggressive roar once you get on it. And the snap crackle pop deceleration...great...now I have to go drive around.

I think it would be fun to take out the rear silencers on my Aero Sportcombi when my sister gets it. All the car guys would never see it coming, a typical white girl driving a Saab wagon with a sound like that.
I'm going to leave the Turbo X stock for now, don't wanna mess anything up or something.
