why isn't the punishment for this stuff higher?

i see ladders and gardening equipment and mattresses on the freeway all the freaking time

those hazards can cause accidents that cause death

it's just as dickish to drive with an unsecured load as it is to drive drunk

There was a post somewhere (here I thought, maybe on FP) a truck driver was telling a story about his training drive and a car that was tailgating him. They had to straddle an engine block on the highway and the car behind them took it right in the nose.

I was thinking "An ENGINE BLOCK?"

There was a woman killed near us last week. She was on a major highway, 3:00 in the afternoon following a dump truck. Mattress flew out of the back, landed on the highway. She stopped in time. Truck behind her did not. She was killed. Nobody caught the dump truck that tossed the mattress out. Two wrongs make a death but SECURE YOUR LOAD!

I'm wondering the same thing. I was driving behind a guy the other day with a massive dog bed in the bed of his pickup. He had no tailgate on said pickup so the dog bed was blowing around all over the bed of the truck. I shot past that guy as soon as I could and saw the dog bed go flying onto the highway a minute later.

I had to dodge a boogie board a couple of weeks ago that flew off the roof of a Ford Territory.

lucky HWP was following me at the time and saw the whole thing. I like to imagine the boogie board prevented them from pulling me over for a random 'breath test' (read: Japanese Import check)

Either you are really clever and made an obscure joke not many people will get in referring to the minivan in some sort of coffin or you didnt get that I was talking about the matress on top.

It would have sucked! I was in my Baja Bug and it was misfiring on one cylinder so I couldn't pass him as soon as I wanted. When I finally passed him I was just watching my rear view just waiting for disaster to strike!

oh man you could have been in big trouble if you lost visibility! accidents suck no matter what, but you definitely want to avoid them in a classic car!

there are so many weird things that happen on busy highways and freeways. even non-dangerous items that fall out of trucks are dangerous. drivers can't always tell what they are approaching so it's natural to swerve out of the way, which can cause accidents for no reason

I was just being silly. Besides, I'm pretty sure the Sarcophagus was an Oldsmobile.
