*It has come to my attention that the question was too general, and that there are many cars that meet the question's requirements. Everyone's answers have been really good so far.*

Have another hint:

Name two cars that were built in the United States, but were never sold in the United States.

HINT 1: They may have emigrated, but they left relatives behind.

HINT 2: Everyone has picked up on two Opels, especially the Opel GT. There is another Opel. This one, however, is the complete opposite of a sports car.

Not one of the two I was thinking of, but it's a good answer.

There are more examples of American exports than you would think.

Are they completely unavailable here, or do rebadges count? Just wondering because the first thing to come to mind is the Opel/Vauxhall Ampera, which totally counts as two different cars that totally are not Chevy Volts.

The two I were thinking of are rebadges.

I realized after I posted this that there are several examples that mean the requirements. You are on the right track to figuring out the two I thought of.

First-gen Vauxhall VX220 and the Opel Speedster (based on an Elise, assembled with US engine and owned by GM, never sold in US)

The later speedster (FR, now MR) showed up here as the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky.

Those were built by Lotus, not in the US and the engines came from Opel iirc?

Correct on the Opel GT (Speedster replacement). It was built in Wilmington, Delaware and exported overseas.

The VX220 and the Opel Speedster were built in Hethel with the Elise.

There is another Opel. This one, however, is the complete opposite of a sports car.

Easy :)

It shared something with the sports cars though. The utter lack of success.

Hint 2, besides the Opel Vauxhall Ampera and Opel GT:

Kinja'd!!!

The Sintra. A GM U-body rebadge roundly seen as one of the worst vehicles sold in Europe in the late '90s.
