Is the S just a rich person tax? What do I get for $30k more than the regular Turbo?
Sell me on it. Go!

You get the smugness that if one day you pull up at the light next to a non-S turbo, you can just glance at him to make him feel inadequate

Do you get to drive it?

The 997 Turbo S was the same price as a regular Turbo with the same options ticked. Porsche basically threw in the power kit for free.

And in addition to that, Porsche throws in the Carbon-Ceramic brakes! How nice of them?

I didn't realize that the base MSRP was $181k for the Turbo S. Wow.

And that's a $9k option by itself. Crazy. I wonder what percentage of Americans are currently driving a car worth less than 9 grand...

If you add up the value of all the cars I own and have owned, they still don't add up to 9 grand and I have owned or currently own 5 vehicles.

I think there is a lot of "tech" in there that needs to be "tested" namely torque vectoring and variable vane turbos!
![]() 02/06/2014 at 11:33 |

Well... I'm not sure my car's still worth 9 grand ..

You, sir, are Jalop.

Just so you're aware while standing in a Porsche dealership, that you're looking at a Porsche, they're conveniently included the brand name Porsche 3 times.
Also, nice butt.

Hope the "broke" part changes before the "young" part. Keep at it.
So, what was your favorite of the 5? My first car was an '86 Toyota Camry 5-speed - flogged the hell out of that lamebox.

Easy - the Ram Van. 1996 dodge conversion van. Bought it for 75$ with a full tank of gas when it was over 4$ a gallon for regular. But it was a rolling hotel room and I cleaned everything inside so it actually was a great car to be in. Sadly, my parents sold it out from under me because I was 17 :/ Bought an 800$ 1997 monte carlo. It ate a transmission and an engine in the first year. 3 years of autocrossing it later (out of revenge and spite!), it ate another engine and trans so it was sold for scrap/spares.
But I guess I'm not that broke, I've just been saving. I have a fiesta ST on order. Delivery expected in March.

Just a little bit :)

My parents had one of those, but it had to have been quite a bit older than a '96 (it had an 8-track). Two facing bench seats in the back, baby...
Congrats on the impending delivery! Good things come to those who wait. What color did you choose?

The base for the Carrera S is now $99k...
At least 997 prices are coming down to earth now.
