Kinja'd!!!

Hey guys,

There are some threads, like the OPPO Welcome and Guidelines, GT6/Forza usernames, OPPO stickers, etc. that would be good to have easily accessible to any current or new members. Unfortunately, the nature of Kinja makes it that these threads currently just have to be shared or re-posted from time to time. Doesn't seem terribly efficient.

Assuming it doesn't already exist, how about creating a new Kinja account for OPPO as a repository for only these few threads? Maybe call it OPPO FAQ or something like that.

Alternately, there could be a tag that it would be agreed that only the mods would use to flag threads like these, and eventually with enough word of mouth, everyone would know to search for that tag when looking for these "sticky" posts.

What do you think?

Thanks,
Dave

We would LOVE to have sticky treads; especially for theme days, but because K.R.E.A.M.*, we can't.

A separate Kinja blog for important threads would be good, but we'd have to keep updating a post with a link to that Kinja blog, so that doesn't really solve the problem.

There are a few helpful tags, including Oppositelock, Oppo Help, Oppo Tools, and Owners Manual.

We've asked for this but it doesn't seem to be in the pipeline, for us at least.

That's an interesting thought (re: separate account).

The idea of sticky posts, or promoted posts, unfortunately does not exist (for us, at least).

We do have a trio of tags for all of the posts (Rules of the road, oppo tools and owners manual), perhaps condensing them to one would be ideal.

I have been tagging everything for the weekly forza challenge. http://www.kinja.com/tag/forza

Wayy back a couple pages in there is the gamertag spreadsheet.

If you come up with an oppo docs tag a mod should probably ammend all posts relevent to that tag.

Thanks, Gamecat. If it was a separate account, you could have a link to it below the OPPO logo (like Jalopnik does for OPPO). I was just thinking of some way to make it work within the limitations of Kinja.

On the tags - no need to remove the existing ones, but coming up with one, simple tag to add to threads like these would be good, I think. Maybe just "OPPOFAQ", or something like that? And members could ask the mods if certain threads are worthy of the tag - obviously, it doesn't work if too much gets added with it.

Are you allowed to add links below the OPPO logo, like Jalopnik has?

If so, links to the search results for the existing "helpful tags" might do the trick.

Yeah, that's why I'm trying to help figure out a way we could "game" the system to get something like it.

Oppo needs that, would it be difficult to implement? Someone from Gawker IT please jump in on this.

I thought KREAM stood for Kinja Ruins Everything Around me?

What about a second footer, the "community" footer? The Kinja sites all have a standard footer (Help, Terms of Use, blah blah blah) so we could add another line, just above or below, specific to the sub-site/community. The links would go directly to the posts where the guidelines, GT6 usernames, etc have been posted and/or discussed. No need for special stickies or other magical post types that aren't supported by our special friend.

I mocked up a simple list, but it could also be menus (click on "Readers" and get a popup menu with Member Map, GT6 Usernames, Forza Usernames, Reader Rides).

Another advantage of this? It's a pattern that could be re-used for the other communities quite easily. Go sell it to the Kinja overlords. Go sell it now!

I don't think that's an option either

Out of curiosity, why not? It's a relatively simple feature in concept and should be portable to the other communities.

Gawker Media can't be bothered.
