You're only allowed to drive one car for the rest of your life. What will you choose?
You're not allowed to drive any other vehicle during this time, whether you own it or not. Assume you have a fully comprehensive, lifetime warranty on your new vehicle; if the vehicle dies, your hypothetical insurance company will replace it. Essentially, neither the price of the vehicle nor its parts are a factor in your selection.
You'd want something with sporting aspirations, given that it's the only thing you'll be able to drive. However, you'll eventually have kids if you don't already, so that F40 won't really work out. Or will it? The choice is yours. Hypothetically.
I have a feeling most of you would just pick supercars anyway. But what about the eventual dings and scratches that come with long term ownership of a car? The constant worry of leaving it parked on the street? The threat of people stealing parts off it, or worse, the whole car? Single digit gas milage? Constantly getting pulled over? Think harder Opponauts!

The hypothetical production version of the Ferrari FSX. Easy!

Lamborghini Aventador in Matte blue. I'm not a fan of kids.

Porsche 993 Turbo forever.

I have 2 kids so it would be either an Aston Martin Rapide, A Porsche Panamera Turbo S, or a BMW M6 Gran Coupe. I'd have to actually drive them to decide

Will it baby though???
![]() 02/03/2014 at 22:48 |

That M6 Gran Coupe is one of the best looking cars on the road.
![]() 02/03/2014 at 22:52 |

I agree on the M6 however, The Rapide is just flat out sexy as hell though. The only way I'd pick the Panamera over the Rapide is if it really gave me the feels when I drove it. Most realistically though it would be Aston vs BMW.

Not everybody ends up having kinds and stuff, ya know.
Anyway, if I continued to live in a place that gets a bunch of snow, Panamera Turbo S.
Otherwise I'd drop about 1000 lbs or so and go M4 Gran Coupe (yes this pic is a 435i GC but come on the M4 GC will probably happen).

How about one of these? I'd choose something other than silver though.

The Aston is beautiful too, but that goes without saying. They all look the same, and that's a very good thing. The Panamera supposedly drives very well, but you either hate or love that exterior design. I fall into the former category. But hey, you can't see it when you're behind the wheel, right?

All Very true, would be too difficult to pick without spending a weekend or so with each one.

My kids are all driving age now, so this:
Edit: a 1973 911RS. And fuck you, Kinja.

Perhaps a Volkswagen R32? White, debadged. Roof rack for snowboards. Given that I live in the city and plan to for quite some time, it's compact size benefits me as well. 6 speed manual and the Haldex kinda sorta 4wd system, for the snow. It's sporty, unassuming, spacious enough for me, fits my needs without being over the top crazy. I'd consider an STI for similar reasons.
I'd still probably get an RS6 Avant though.

1st Gen CTS-V. Because pushrods.
The tech will never be outdated, because the only tech in it is a nav system which is useless for hooning.
It's cheap to maintain, because T56 and... Pushrods.
It will happily schlep your lady friend and mini-me's around at legal speeds all day long. It will also happily hoon till the cows come home.
It looks sinister but not pretentious. It sounds good but it's not an attention whore.
Also, pushrods.

If it's the last car I get to drive, it's got to be functional, fun and for the future. If we can have anything we want with a comprehensive god-mode warranty and insurance then I pick one of these...
... powered by one of these...
... with the this...
... with the interior out of one of these...
... and various accouterments as well.

MK1 GTi, possibly a 4 door though for the kids sake.

Yes. My Miata has built in child seat anchors. Also my nieces love it :)

Because the word "practicality" does not appear in the list of things I want from a car, unless immediately preceded by the word "fuck".

If you decide on a wife and your own kids one day, you can just make her take the kids everywhere.

I approve this choice.

1. I am extremely jealous of your garage. AE86 included because who doesn't want a car like that.
2. A used SLS is on the short list of cars to get after I get a "real" job. Its so unapologetic about everything.

I'm going to pick a four-door sedan because I'm the most exciting person on this blog.
Then I'd separate them into two categories.
Panamera Turbo S, RS7, Rapide S, S65 in the I'm a fun person category.
And Lexus LS600hL because I like reliability.
Then E63 Wagon bringing up the rear of the list.
I'd probably pick the Panamera Turbo S because of the room and fastness, but as a person, my real-life goal is to own a LS600hL and eventually go to Turbo S. HAHA. This was redundant.

In Europe you could order a Black Series without the spoilers, which (in addition to looking better IMO) saved you $30k-ish.
If they had offered it without the aero in the US, I would have bit the bullet and upgraded.
In regards to the original hypothetical post, I set out from the beginning to keep it for the long haul. I bought the extended warranty out to 7 years and 100k miles (I've done around 16-17k in 22 months) and the entire car is wrapped in 3M ClearBra.

Ferrari F12. Because V12.

I'm glad I'm old and retired empty-nester cause I still want a bright red CCXR while I can still enjoy it! I don't care about the tickets, I don't care about utility. I only need room for 1 passenger and I'll ship my luggage freight.

probably something along the lines of an RS7/4. It may have to wait to see when audi will do a turbo rs5. because i like coupes. and kids can sit in the back seat and suffer. they'll thank me when they get to take it to prom.

So it will have to occasionally baby & wife, but I'm not paying for parts …. so it will be a 2+2 and italian then.
Also having it for decades means being the fastest doesn't matter because regardless of what you pick, it will be "slow" in a few years …. so something special to drive ….

That's tough.
Part of me wants to just say Gallardo Balboni.
However, your requirements make it difficult. Bastard.
Guess it has to be a wagon of some sort. I'd prefer it be diesel, just because. And also sporty. Like an RS6 Avant, but with triple the highway mileage.
Guess I'll have to build it myself. For this challenge of course. (If I could have one for reals, I own it already)
