And of course i had to prepare to be angered (as i hate rotary bashing) but he merely stated the facts, and theyre hard to argue with. but among those facts something stuck out to me.. is an Rx-8 actually cheap to insure!?

I ask because i tried to sell a friend an Rx8. he is a 17 year old with his mother buying him his first car. the only thing she seemed to care about was insurance cost!

now lets paint a picture of tinkerbelle(the rx8) for you guys.

This vehicle was bought by my uncle, an experienced rotary mechanic for very cheap because in its 83 thousand miles it had been through 3 motors. we brought the car into the shop, and on a hunch decided to see how much oil was in it... about half a quart.. rotarys consume oil.. without it, much like any other motor, they die... this is why rotarys should not be sold to the general public for daily driving use, only enthusiast who care enough to take car of the cars (and thus last 200,000 miles in an N/A application)

I digress..

I gave my friend a great deal on a low mileage Rx8 with a professionally rebuilt motor. He was jonesin, but his mother quickly said no because of insurance and went out and bought a mazda 3 with over 100,000 miles (if you look into it, they too have issues of the expensive variety around this time) for over $1000 more..

The Mazda 3 is a 2L 4 door sedan.. and the Rx8 is what, a 1.3l 4 door sports car?

... i wonder...

of course its snowing outside today (on my 17th birthday, and i take my test at 1 o'clock if theyre open) and if he decided to go out today, he would probably die.. so its not that big a deal..

A quick Google shows that it's classified as a low-power sedan, so it should be fine. You should really check somewhere else though.

I'm outside the general Oppo demographic regarding age, but my RX8 was cheap to insure. It's been a few years, but I think I was around $400/yr for full coverage with $500 deductibles, and I couldn't tell ya what the coverage was for the other typical required items. I do carry above state minimums, though. (This is in Colorado...which is, or at least was, double the cost of Virginia for insurance!!)

In michigan it isn't. It costs the same or more than a GTI which is more than a miata or FR-S. I think they get wrecked a lot and that drives up the medical insurance payouts (MI is no-fault for medical purposes so in an accident between two insured motorists, I think your insurances pays your bills even if you were 100% retarded)

Yeah they actually are. When I was 16 getting quotes on insurance an RX8 was less to insure than an E90 BMW 328i... Which was less than a 2007 V6 Honda accord.
