I was recently looking at used McLaren 12Cs and was shocked how much they have depreciated.
Take for example this !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .
Original sticker price for that particular car was $288,140. Now, with only 11,060 miles, its priced at $157,900; a depreciation value of nearly $12 a mile.
So I ask you Opponauts, is there any other new sports car/ supercar, (lets say within the last three years), that has depreciated more?

Four-seat Ferraris. As usual. The FF might need a bit more time, but a 612 can be picked up for peanuts.

Part of the reason for such catastrophic depreciation on that 12C is because the 12C has already been twice over replaced. First came the convertible version (which may or may not have affected prices of the coupe), then came the 650S.
The same will happen to the smart fortwo when the new C453 hits American shores. The 451 will nose dive and you'll be able to score a practically new 451 for the same price a high mileage one would fetch today.

Assuming he bought it in January of 2012, that's $5427 a month (in addition to the car payment)!

I'm impressed at how CLK63 Blacks have depreciated. They're easily 50k these days.

This is a good thing because the mp4-12C is my favorite sub 300K new supercar. Now I can get one for nearly half off.
I think the problem is that they came out with superior the 650S way too soon for the same price as the MP4-12C which drove the prices super low super fast. The 12C should of had a 5 year run or more before replacing it. It probably pissed off enough 12C owners to not own another mclaren again
Look at all the reviews of it. they say it's a supercar you could drive everyday.

The Aston martin DB9. A 2014 model can be bought for $130,000. That's 30% of it's value gone in less than a year. A 2007 model can be bought for $70,000 , or 62% of its value gone, an average of 8.85% per year.
If you took the money you lost on depreciation in buying a 2007 DB9 ($110,000), and invested it conservatively in the stock market after the financial crisis (throwing it in the S&P from 2009 to 2014) you could earn, in 5 years, an additional 96% return on it.
In other words, if you invested the DB9's depreciation from the start, you'd have a total of $210,000. E nough to buy a whole new DB9. That's the significance. The MP4 may have lost a lot of value quickly, but the DB9 has consistently performed bad as an investment for nearly a decade now.

Just confirming you're talking about smart cars in your second paragraph there.

I was driving my 240Z today and I saw a grey one of these on the highway. Its a boring looking car, not that a car has to have presence but if you're going to get a top shelf sports car I would go Lambo since its doubtful any normal person would ever get the most out of its abilities. I was glad to be in my Datsun.

I'd much rather have an R8, they look really cool. I see the McLs around and they are so uninteresting to look at. That Audi is sexy in an understated German way. The McL looks like a 90's car to me.

AMG Mercs tend to drop their prices by a lot over the years. An SL55 AMG ten years ago would've cost more than £80,000. Now, you can allegedly pick on up for around £15,000.
