It sure is disappointing to discover such a nasty scratch on your car the day after Christmas. It probably happened a day or two earlier, when the car was parked on yhe other side of the street - we just didn't notice it until this morning.
My wife's reaction? "There goes $1000 off the resale value of our car!"
From the position and intensity of the scrape, it was almost certainly a white delivery truck or cube van. Of course, no note of apology was to be found anywhere.
At least the tail light didn't crack.

My father in law's brake line went out on Christmas morning. Thankfully he noticed the low pedal as he tried to pull out of his driveway... and his buddy that owns a shop was able to open up and take a look at it (i.e., pinch it off so he could still make it to our house) yesterday.
Bah humbug, eh?

I want to say that your car is a Sportwagen / Golf Variant based on the trim... is it? Just wondering

A decent body shop will make quick work of this, but your deductible ...

It's not just a scratch, the sheetmetal is deformed, which is why I'm glad the tail light didn't break. I should have mentioned this.
If I were to fix it, it'd be on my own dime. Not sure it's worth the insurance claim.
When time comes to sell, I'll have someone buff it out a bit.

I'd lean towards getting it fixed - just knowing it's there will wear on you, just like the nasty ding I got on my '87 300D so long ago. Felt so much better when it was whole again.
