I've been unsuccessfully trying to get my Honda Express running for a few weeks now, but I've finally had a breakthrough. Besides the problem of having no key (easily solved with a jump wire), I've been chasing shorts and ground issues so much that I decided to just remove everything not required to run the motor. This left me with 3 wires total including the plug wire, and you know what? She started right up on the second kick!
So happy right now, wonder if I can get the parts bike running too...

Simplify and add lightness?
Great to hear that it's running. My dad had similar issues when trying to get a Honda 70 cc trail bike running. My brother had bought it off a teach of his for $20. It had been sitting in a field for a few years, and mice had eaten off half the insulation. He was only able to get it running after replacing half the wiring.

Yes! When you only have about 2.x horsepower every milligram counts.
I'd love to get a project c70 or c90 next, those things are awesome.
