Gotta read the fine print:
Licensed U.S. travelers to Cuba will be able to bring back $400 worth of goods and merchandise, of which no more than $100 can consist of both alcohol and tobacco products. Resale is prohibited.

Those people are American.

Not all Cuban-Americans will be happy about this. The descendants of the Batista elite certainly won't.

Sure, but what about the citizens of Cuba?

I sure hope so. Hasn't the gov't figured out that they can tax the hell out of them and people will still buy them? I remember the Mariel Boat Lift back in 1980. I've always said, if we don't want the Cubans coming to America, help make Cuba a place where Cubans want to stay. It's time we got over Castro.

Yeah He hates the Castro regime as much as the next Cuban but is a realist when it comes to US-Cuba relations. Yeah The Cubans in South Florida will not be happy.

China, Russia, and Vietnam are fine, but Cuba has been too dangerous for the US to have normal relations. Yea, that made sense.

Honest question: Why would the Cubans in South Florida be unhappy about this?
![]() 01/09/2015 at 12:53 |
|
The South Florida Cubans are a very Anti Castro (Most are related to folks who lost land and property during the '59 Revolution or had ties to the Batista goverment ) and want the US government to keep the embargo up.

Gotcha, because softening relations w/ Cuba now necessarily means that we're choosing to play nice w/ Fidel Castro (via Raul). Is that correct?
Also, that was an incredibly concise answer to what I assume is a rather complex issue... thank you!

Exactly! You are very welcome glad I could clear it up :).
