These were the shit back in the day. I used to make some of the craziest tracks with these. Hopping the foyer, traversing between my house and my best friend's (we were next door neighbors), looping staircases, replicating traffic jams, hell even circumnavigating our old house with the help of all of my friends (no mean feat at 3500 sqft!). My parents were never terribly happy with that last one, but hey, they bought me the damn things. My inner gear head and my inner physicist loved the kinetic insanity of these old things. Finding a bunch of these in a box made my inner child happy, although this is probably a fraction of the ones I had/have. A couple are crushed, some battered, one munched on by a dog, but each one holds memories galore. Also, a couple windback cars too. Those weren't as fun.
Any other opponauts have fond memories of these things?

Mmmm...911 GT1...
Shame you lost the wing, but being very young, it's quite normal to remove stuffs from diecasts. :P

I have this one in a darker blue and purple. As well as the blue porsche with the #3 stripe. Many of my old ones I actually played with are also battered and bruised. I used to setup my one track piece that had the rollers to shoot them around the track, only I would do it off the top of the stairs haha. My one neighbor and I also tried to strap bottle rockets to some at one point.

It came in a box of Cornflakes, but hey it fit. The ones that pissed me off were the ones that were too wide/narrow, like that Land Cruiser lookin' one...

I had shitload of those motors. That's what let me do all that crazy shit.
Bottle rockets? How deliciously evil...

Probably my favorite Vette design. It's the dead opposite of everything else of it's time.

I can't remember if it actually worked or not haha.

Probably not. The power:weight ratio's just too high.

I still buy these on eBay sometimes. My girlfriend has happily accepted that fact. I still think it's an amazing way to get in touch with a lot of cool cars I'll never actually own. Plus, toys are fun.

The mostly Matchbox models that were realistic models of real cars rather than fantasy garage type things were always my favorite, especially the trucks.

That wasn't on my mind at that age.

Ditto. I think the XJ and the E30 got more use than the fake ones.

OH GOD I HAVE THIS ONE TOO (along with 7 or 8 other firebirds...)

Seems like you and I shared that Mc Toy/Maisto big pack, it had the blue 930 Turbo, the red/white LeSabre (and police version) and the '82 Firebird (probably a copy of Matchbox's casting). Really love that E30 323i Cabrio by Soma/Summer, I too share tons of memories with these cars as a child!

Edit: MC Toy and Soma/Real Toy.. Mega brain fart...

My mother recently dug these out for my 40th bday. I still lust for a real X-11
