Would any of you care to join me in completing the Peking to Paris rally in the (very) far future?

Never heard of it. So yes.

Driving from Paris to Peking in classical cars.

Sure, give me a few years to score a well-paying engineering career.

Sounds interesting. But first I need to build a suitable car. And then I need to find funding for racing/adventures.

only if we do it in a 1959 buick
![]() 12/14/2014 at 22:56 |

I was thinking 1940's Rolls Royce or 1970's Mercedes big if we were on a budget. But 59 Buick sounds awesome.
![]() 12/14/2014 at 22:57 |

Will it be in a Cadillac like that?
![]() 12/14/2014 at 22:57 |

Same here.
![]() 12/14/2014 at 22:58 |

The possibilities are endless. I was thinking 1970's Mercedes or classic Rolls.

Depends on the Vehicle we will be using.

Kinja decided my reply wasn't worthy so here it goes again. Driving from Peking to Paris in a classic car among many other classic cars.

What is your suggestion? I was thinking 40's Rolls or 70's large Mercedes.
![]() 12/14/2014 at 23:06 |
|
You had me at "rally," count me in!
![]() 12/14/2014 at 23:08 |
|
We have a heck of a team! The car, what is your suggestion?
![]() 12/14/2014 at 23:13 |
|
Sure, let me graduate first and earn all the money. We can get one of these:
Or a junky and massive 70s land barge:

their definition of Classic is pretty wide... Anything below 1975.
I'd do it in the only acceptable road trip vehicle:
(not specifically in a 72 LTD, but any big american landbarge station wagon)

I want to point out the brass balls of these gentlemens, who completed the 2013 edition in a 1917 LaFrance Tourer (with a 14.5-Litre inline-six):
![]() 12/14/2014 at 23:26 |

Was thinking Half-Track or Renault 16TX
![]() 12/14/2014 at 23:33 |
|
Red interior?
![]() 12/14/2014 at 23:34 |
|
That's actually a good idea, reliable, plenty of muscle and storage room.
![]() 12/14/2014 at 23:35 |
|
How about massive 70's station wagon?
![]() 12/14/2014 at 23:36 |
|
Oh, rally pron!
I could probably be talked into that, but a race-prepped classic Caddy would be a definite yes.
![]() 12/14/2014 at 23:37 |
|
Some members of our team are thinking about a 70's massive station wagon. Is that ok?
![]() 12/14/2014 at 23:37 |
|
Only if it is this wagon:
![]() 12/14/2014 at 23:38 |
|
That and Trophy Truck levels of suspension travel. We'll win the rally because of that alone.
![]() 12/14/2014 at 23:43 |
|
Hell yes!
![]() 12/14/2014 at 23:45 |
|
YES!

1959 Electra 225, with a 454 dropped in, and a 5-speed manual backing it up!
![]() 12/14/2014 at 23:52 |
|
You've really got my number there. I love love LOVE Oldsmobiles!
![]() 12/14/2014 at 23:56 |
|
YES. I'd do it in just about anything. A Roller Sounds nice though. As does a Packard. A Buick Roadmaster would be nice as well.
![]() 12/14/2014 at 23:58 |
|
How about an Olds Vista Cruiser?
![]() 12/15/2014 at 00:01 |
|
If I thought they'd let us get away with it I'd say an old Group 6 Baja car, like the Edsel
However, barring that (and I suspect they would bar it), I think a Fabulous Hudson Hornet would be an absolute joy. (I originally thought of the Citroen DS, but that would only work if it were the "Peking to China/Mongolia border" rally)
![]() 12/15/2014 at 00:07 |

Can we put a 442 and a Hurst 4 speed in it? And give it a mild lift (1") and run WRC Dirt tires? And give it Hurst Livery?
![]() 12/15/2014 at 00:08 |
|
It would also be fun to do it in something without a roof.
![]() 12/15/2014 at 00:09 |
|
Yes yes and yes.

I've only found one problem with this: It looks like they are not allowing "estate cars" in 2016... buuuuuuuuuut 2016 is all full. Rules might change in the future.
