Sorry for the crap quality (iPotato 4S)

Why don't you shift at redline? Also nice choice on the DIESELS.

Because the torque and most of the HP is gone after 4k rpm... the charts for the engine show a cliff at about 4200rpm

Shortshifting the TDI yields the best results.

You need to feather the clutch on the 1-2 shift and keep your foot into it more to keep the turbo vanes from resetting. Less lag

Have you timed your 0-60 times when shifting @4k and when shifting at redline? Also, I don't really know how a diesel car drives, as the only Diesel car I've driven is a Mitsubishi L200 diesel truck.

It was kind of wet out... and I was busy trying to film and drive and shift all at the same time :P
I'll try it again when it is dry out

Didn't know that.

Never timed it... I think it is about 8.5-9 seconds when short shifting it

Not me, but my car.

Why is there a digital and analogue speedo?
![]() 12/12/2014 at 18:23 |

You can switch through the digital modes (AVG MPG, AVG MPG current drive, Instant MPG, Speedo, and a couple of others too)

Ah. I just thought it was because vw electronics and they wanted to give you a back up. ;)

Nah, nothing has even broken on it in 81k miles ;)

Nice. I had a few friends with jettas in high school. I don't think any of them had their cars 100% at the same time. It was almost always something electrical. It seems like people with VWs either have no issues at all or constant issues. My neighbors only buy VWs and never have had a single issue. Your thoughts? I don't know anyone with new VWs so I don't know how they go these days.

Nope, never had any problems besides a hatch lock dying (hatch would sometimes not latch shut) and the occasional nail in the tire
Might have something to do with the fact that these are assembled in Mexico ;)

Probably.
*insert racist anti-Mexican something*
#theytookourjobs
I hear you on nails. I carried a hydraulic jack, tire plugs, and 2 cans of fix a flat. I got 3 flats in one month last year. Been lucky with the mazda but I got more flats in my corolla than everyone I know combined.

I've lost two tires so far... one had a hole in it the size of a dime!

Impressive. I've been fortunate that my 2 tire destroying flats occurred when it was time for new tires.... Wait. That's a lie. I got a tire destroying flat on a near brand new tire in my mom's car.
