This is a 25 year old car for a whole lot of money. My question - is there something as entertaining with, say, some airbags, that is safer than this quarter-century old relic?

Miata.

It is often the answer, but there are a lot of BMWs and Audis (and a couple Japanese cars) that fill the bill. I want a bit of safety with my fun. But that's just me.

Yeah - as I said in an earlier comment - 30 grand buys a lot of entertaining (and safer, and better) cars in this market.

Keep in mind though that this isn't in the us I think. I've never heard of goo net

Goo-net is Japan's car classifieds.

And yet - if you can buy this car (or nearly) in the U.S., would you? Or an older M5, or a more recent M3, or ... whatever you can get for 30 grand that's safer and better sorted out? Eh - just me again, deciding on the safer route.
