...You zip-tie the shit out of a thing
![]() 12/09/2014 at 23:40 |

Man, you really don't want people to open your water, do you?
![]() 12/09/2014 at 23:40 |

it just looks like a waste of zip ties to me LOL

I'M MAKING A PENDULUM.

I don't see duct tape.

The CE guys took it.

Lay off Roadkill, dude.

I got thousands of them, I'm good.
![]() 12/09/2014 at 23:47 |

Oh, yes, of course. What was I thinking? It's so perfectly clear. How could I have thought otherwise?
[chuckle, snort]
So, is this for some project, or something? or did you find that there was a shortage of pendulums in your house and you set out to rectify it?
![]() 12/09/2014 at 23:48 |

disappointing they would stoop to that level.
Also, is that a Matchbox M1 Abrams I spy?

You mean, as opposed to drilling a hole in the cap, put the string through it, knotting it and screwing the cap on?
Overkill - it's what's for [engineering] student's dinner.
PS: By the way, *nice* zip tying!

Awesome, I'm an engineer! *furiously updates resume*
![]() 12/09/2014 at 23:52 |

Really don't know, I saw it when I was little and thought it looked cool.
![]() 12/09/2014 at 23:53 |

There's always a shortage of pendulums.
Yeah it's for a project. I'm supposed to build some sort of stopwatch without using a computer.

My drill is ghetto and the batteries are dead. That's my solution. *laughing turns to crying*

You would not believe what I've done with a Phillips head screwdriver. Would.Not.Believe.

Cable ties are very handy, I cracked the plastic radiator tank on my ute hitting an obstacle off road and 'welded' the crack back up using cable ties and a plastic welding gun, the ties are the same type of plastic as the tank and its still holding fine over a month later. Didn't even have to remove the radiator to repair it!

Amateur ;)
When you zip-tie a rock to be used as a hanging damper to keep one side of your EZ-Up from blowing away in strong wind, that's when you've officially become an Engineer.

is it cheating if you use ancient designs for timekeeping?
like the ol' hole in the bottom of a bowl trick.
![]() 12/10/2014 at 00:03 |

No it's cheating if I use a computer or a digital stopwatch.
![]() 12/10/2014 at 00:05 |

Yep. Got over 700 of them in the trunk of my car. The only problem is that I'm now waiting for something to fall off just so I can use the zip-ties on 'em.

Dorifto Watorboto?
![]() 12/10/2014 at 01:11 |

do you have to be able to stop it at a certain time and say "that is 1 minute and 52 seconds"?
or can you literally just get a bucket of water and a bowl with a small hole in the bottom, and mark off on the bowl how deep it is at certain time intervals.

I see zipties, but where's the hammer, duct tape, oil-stained dimensioned drawings hastily annotated, and surplus nuts and bolts?
![]() 12/10/2014 at 01:47 |

PS to last response. Luckily - they were all Craftsman phillips heads.
![]() 12/10/2014 at 20:59 |

totally secure via overkill and loss of original function? Yep, that's an engineer's engineering engineered...
![]() 12/10/2014 at 21:02 |

I should have made it clearer that I'm making a pendulum.

so repurposing a perfectly good water bottle for something else? Just proves the point really ;)
