As a note, it is awesome that Kinja can actually handle blackletter unicode in titles without shitting itself.

As a side note, I really should have chosen ein Deutsches Bier that uses blackletter. BRB, swapping it to a Koelsch picture.

PaulAner seems to be more consistent in Germany. I wonder if you guys get the same issue we do in the states, in that it varies a hell of a lot. I kind of like it for what you pay, but tastes differ. Also, I swapped the picture for Reissdorf, because it made the blackletter/broken script joke work better.

Altbier! Loved to drink at Uerige when I was traveling to Duesseldorf. Now I drive three hours to Charlotte NC and go to Olde Mecklenburg Brewing....they brew a quite good altbier.

How do you do it?

Well, I could have posted a picture of the local brewing company's gaelic ale, but both scots and hillbillies are illiterate, so they don't have a fancy script to compensate for being right-side-up.

Beers are usually better if you get them at a place close to the brewery, outsourced stuff tend to be shit. But then again, most of me mates seem to think Heineken or Corona = really good beer.. so..

I copy/pasted. There's probably a tool, but rather than looking for one, I did it letter by letter.

Just do a search for blackletter generator :P

I detest Heineken and don't care much for Corona, but better than half of the Paulaner I get seems to be close to what I can get in Germany, so maybe the supply lines aren't too bad. OTOH, it seems to be much harder to get "good" Franziskaner - most that I can get is off by at least a bit. Guinness is another one - most US Guinness drinkers aren't drinking particularly fresh. The Canadian-brewed Guinness tends to be better, at least where I am.
I've also heard Leinenkugel (Wisconsin-made, German style) put down violently, but those who put it down due to taste and not snobbery may be suffering the same effect of distance and shelf time - it seems to vary. I think anything German styled seems to suffer a lot from shelf time. Of course, their addiction to variety-madness doesn't help - it's like a Sam Adams in that they try to produce everything at least once. Their Koelsch style beer is acceptable, their ordinary shandy less so, but I just had an orange Leinie shandy that was superb.

I'm a little over two hours from Charlotte and occasionally have occasion to go to the area. Perhaps I should load up.
