Found this Mercury emblem. I think it is '48 or '49. Anybody know for sure?

I saw something like that when I was searching. Difference is the vertical ribs in the gold "outline" area. Mine does not have those.

Real close. Mine has small white circles in the center of the stars, though. I think the enameled area is called cloiss?? Cloy-zun-ay is what I'm trying to spell.

Geez. Never heard of that word cloiss. I wonder if Montego Man might be able to identify it.

Maybe he will chime in at some point.

Gotcha. I have heard of that, but didn't know what it was. Now I do. Thanks!

I didn't remember quite how to spell it either, but I had the rudiments and used the "assume it's French" rule.

Yep, that's it. I could not remember how to spell it. Them French, they trip me up often.

I think they must have used it in both '48 and '49, but not sure.

By "found" I mean at a garage sale. Saw that and they asked me if I knew what it was. Told them it was a hood emblem that probably came off a late 40's or early 50's car. Probably a Ford product. He gave it to me. Said I deserved it.

I just find it interesting that after 65 years, it still has color and looks reasonably presentable, but Saab and BMW emblems fade to nothingness after 5 years.

Especially the BMW. Or any modern emblems for that matter.
