I've been a homeowner for all of 12 days and I come home tonight only to find tracks going from my front entrance all the way down the side of my house then on my back deck right up to the windows then back down and around the other side of the house and finally away from the house down a back alley. Talk about making a guy paranoid I'll be keeping a baseball bat by my bed tonight that's for damn sure.
EDIT: After talking to the neighbours turns out it was the tax surveyors taking measurements of the house.

Thats pretty damn scary man! Do you have a dog in your house? Im not a very paranoid person. But there is a gun easily within reach of my bed. Be safe and alert!

That's fucked up.
Funny semi-related story: last year, we had footprints in the snow leading to my buddy Keith's window. At first there were no footprints leaving, but eventually ones leaving showed up.
Wait, did I say funny? I meant fucked up.

Are you allowed to carry?

No gun's here. I'm in canada a gun is not needed. A swing of a louisville slugger in the shins and they won't be going anywhere. I don't have a dog either.
I might put some cameras up to be on the safe side.

Dude this is Canada of course not. I'm sure it was nothing maybe just a nosey neighbour. but it still makes you think that's for sure.
![]() 12/06/2014 at 01:55 |

Woa, thats even scarier! No bark or bang bang! Be safe and swing away.

I starred, but what I really wanted to do was a frown.
Dude, that's messed up. Probably benign, but still...messed up.

That shouldn't have made me laugh.

Get a dog.

I'd fuck with them by putting empty water bottles and burned out light bulbs in the snow. There's no stepping on something like that and being sneaky about it. Worst case, just bury a bear trap and call it a night. Think of the wailing as more like a new-age lullaby.

I had a bit of a scare when we found tracks going around the side of my house last winter. Turns out it was the gas guy, who for whatever reason decide to tour the backyard.

I thought in Canada gun laws were pretty lax, because of the bears and wolves and shit. Maybe that's only in the cold, desolate tundra.

Could just be a utility guy looking for a meter. Still creepy though.

That sucks. Our house got broken into a month after we moved in. Made us feel really great about the neighborhood.

When I bought my house, I got welcomed to my neighborhood with rocks thrown through several windows and the windshield of my old falcon smashed.

getting a riffle or something is simple but getting a pistol of any kind is not that easy. You still need a licence to get a riffle but that license isn't hard to get.
but if you did end up shooting someone that broke in your the one that would be wrong and you would likely be facing time.

Re your edit..........thank goodness! I was hoping it was something like that.

Welcome to the neighbourhood my friend.

Turns out it was the tax surveyors. but that didn't make last night any better. I figured it was probably nothing I mean this is Canada after all but you never know.

I know you are in Canada, but there must be a way to get a permit to have something like this. Just in case.
![]() 12/06/2014 at 12:06 |

it was the tax guys measuring the house after all.

Not really needed in Canada who ever might break into your house is more than likely unarmed and if the have a weapon it would be nothing more than a knife.
one of these should be more than enough protection around these parts.

I'm glad it was nothing, but I feel like they need to give you a heads up before doing this. If it were a place like Texas and the owner were home they may have gotten shot. Or if a little old lady lived there she may have had a heart attack.

Glad there was a legit explanation.

Re your update.. did they give you a notice beforehand? I had a recent break in also in my 1 month of home ownership and am a bit weary on people

I agree a note on the door would of been much appreciated. If I was home and saw someone out there with a tape measure I wouldn't of thought anything of it. but the fact that I wasn't home and didn't know what went on made for a paranoid night.

*stuffs clothes in a bag* I'm moving to Canada!

No notice of anything which is why I was so uneasy about it. I remember your story about your place and the fact that you are in texas makes it even scarier(lots of guns and people who aren't afraid to use them). Last thing I want to do is live here in fear. I sure hope if they do some thing like this again we get a notice.

come on over.

I got home around 10pm but I was gone since 7am. they came during the day but you can't know that by just looking at the tracks.

Yes sir, any notice but yeah living in fear is such a bad thing. Being ready is the real debate but afraid I am not :] It's the weekend! Time to do house stuff lol

"hello, pawn shop? I need a gun. In fact I need all of your guns. Maybe bows and arrows too. There are a bunch of foot prints around my new house and I want to be ready when they come back!"
**jumps on craigslist and searches "mercenaries for hire"**
